The Daily Grind: Did you go to a game convention last year?

Nope. I would if they would have them in other cities closer to home. Like PHILLY or Washington D.C.

I'am sad to say I have not been to any convention, i would like to but I live in sweden and there are no game convention here as far as i know. And flying to the us for a game convention is a little too costly.

This year was just plain awesome for me :p I was able to get around to Anime North, Fan Expo, and BlizzCon :) It was a good year :D

I only made it to New York Comic-Con, but it did have games content; I even attended a few MMO panels.

I missed out last year, work was too hectic. I went to PAX in '09 and hope to go again this year though!

Go to convention.

See games alpha/beta.

Listen to hype.

Look at cosplay people.

Get free stuff.

Go home wait for game.

Buy game and see game is no where near what was described at convention or what was shown.

Unsub game.

mm.. rather just pass on all of that and skip to the end. It's less expensive and doesn't require hassling travel plans.

Cons are for people who don't have kids.

Nope. Only one I'm remotely interested in is E3.

Went to E3 this year. It was entertaining, got to play a few things i was interested in and wander around and get free swag. I would recomend going atleast once. Planning on going to PAX next year and if i had the money to go to any convention, Eve Fanfest would be at the top of the list, maybe next year.

I went to PAX East and was blown away. Loved meeting developer and community folks from different companies. Loved hanging out with other gamers. Loved having out in the Rock Band Lounge.

I bought my tickets the moment it was announced this year.

Most of the other cons aren't really worth it.

Dragoncon was pretty awesome, I didn't pay to get in, just walked around and drank so I didn't get to go to any panels. It was cool seeing all the cosplay, though I didn't see anything related to pc/console gaming anywhere. If I happen to be in Atlanta again for 2011's I'll totally buy a pass and actually go see stuff. Friday night was the best though surprisingly, after that none of the other nights seemed to match up, couldn't even go there on Sunday night they closed it off to the public.

I went to Dragon*Con, which I attend every year. Except I won't be attending in 2011. I've had enough of their inept handling of the ticketing process. I paid for my 2010 tickets in 2009, and still had to wait in line for FOUR HOURS to get my badge. I'm done with that tripe. It's unfortunate, since otherwise it was a great con, as usual.

I would love to go one at least once but I don't have friends that game, and the thought of going alone seems boring.

The word COMIC in COMIC-CON is misleading. There's so many developers and publisher that go there as well - Not to mention all the big TV and movie studios who have celebrities show up every single day for the 4 days its open.

Anyways, I think Comic Con is worth mentioning.

I've been to several in the past and to be honest PAX really is the only one that matters these days.

E3 is a shadow of its former self and wholey given over to marketing and "flash". If you want to see a hype machine running at full steam, go to E3. But be ready to be disappointed by the actual reality of the games you see there, because at E3, everything is fake.

BlizzCon and Fan Faire are great shows, but are pretty narrow in focus. If you're a fanboi (or grrl) these are yuor shows. If you like a lot of different games (or gamers) you will get bored after the first few hours.

Leipzig is in Germany. Who has the money for a eurpoean flight? 'nuff said!

PAX is seven layers of awesome stuffed into three days. One-on-one access to devs, artists, gamers, and interested bystanders. Fun events that are going on 24/7 (for the weekend) and it is held in one of the nicest places in the US to visit. (I don't live there; our group of seven all fly 300 miles for this show.)

I got to NY Comic-Con/NYAF this year. I might try to make it to the next PAX East.
