Maybe Champions Online will follow Lord of the Ring Online.

Before it went f2p, it was just another meh game. Voila! Go f2p and suddenly everyone starts praising it. Even got MMO of the Year by PC Gamer.

@Jade Effect

You've clearly been on another planet for the last few years - LoTRO was very, very far from being "just another meh game" before it went F2P. I might have agreed with you if you'd said that about DDO, but otherwise, welcome back to planet Earth!

That depends entirely on who you talk to. The only thing really good about LOTRO was the world and the community (although the latter is overrated, it is still a nice place to be.)

LOTRO had fairly poor combat (no, it's not because it's a themepark) the animations were dire sometimes, the characters looked like goofy morons (especially Men) and the raid-gating and content release schedule were abysmal.

The story was okay, but after seeing the movies I personally found the different voices a bit off-putting, and at the end of the day the vast majority of the story quests really weren't that interesting.

The music, dye and costume systems were great though. Housing interiors were meh, outsides (i.e. neighbourhoods) were the shizz.

So, yeah. It was fairly "meh" on my radar; I got my money's worth out of my life sub (I think) but only because it was £75 and the months were spread far and wide.

@thefreetoplay crowd, wth over?

"explaining in more detail exactly what options will be locked to non-paying players"

And yet more stupidity. The episode on gambling 60 minutes did a couple nights ago and the official that gave the wonderous speech to god and country sealing his political fate mirrors the thinking behind the F2P misbrand, "If they are going to be stupid and spend their money somehwere else it may as well be here". Such wisdom uttered that night.... (using wisdom was sarcasm, again to those that surely wont have a clue)

They need to fix that pronto.
