You are on your way to an awesome adventure! I hope you have a blast. I would say choose Death (of course) or Life School. Your mount should be picked after your school. Necromancers look great in Bat Wings BTW. See you in the Spiral my friend!

This game is great! I fall in the category of an "older" player. I have 3 kids that play this game and we all have a blast. Another benefit that I love about this game (from a mom point of view) is that my kids will play together without EVER fighting, except in the arena, ha ha ha. I LOVE that factor.

If you ever need help and see either Jenna Soulcatcher or Rachel Frostbringer, just come up and ask. I love helping people out with their quests.

See you in the spiral!

If you're going to group, Balance/Life is awesome support and still contributes decent damage. Soloing is also easy since you become hard to kill with your shields and healing. Life also has the easiest time summoning its creatures.

Myth seems to get hosed in the 1-10 levels - many monsters can cast Myth shields.

What about your secondary school? Should that be up to the readers as well?

While Wizard 101 is a great game I don't think it even belonged as an indie selection. This is a major game with actual television comercials and a player base that is competive with the regular collum games. It should have it's own collum and this should have been left to actual indie games.

That being said I am looking forward to the review/adventure for it.

Though I'm one of the (totally awesome) Anarchy Online community, I'm also a regular Massively reader and look forward to following and participating in your new adventure - looking forward to next week's Rise and Shiny series too, big thanks on behalf of the AO gang for that. I love the community and I'm very glad that our passion is that inspiring. :)

That said - having no idea which choices are better, I chose Boy, Myth (because it sounded interesting), and Black Stallion (because I figured everyone else would choose wings). Onward!

I play this from time to time, no shame. It's a pretty awesome little game and the setting is charming.

I AM HOOKED!!! Hope you have a great time playing and meeting new friends. I have 6 wizards but my favorite is Storm with Life as a second school. Look me up-MARIAH Legendary Storm

I've tried this game out myself for a month and it was fun. Granted the turnbased combat aspect of it was a little slow for me. Trash encounters if you're not a vet player with experience under your belt can last over 5 mins in length at times.

My advice: Fire has some awesome dps but incredibly high miss rate, I'd go with a Myth/Life combo personally. Also for mounts, use the back wings, any of them. The ride-able ones have an issue with getting stuck in tight corners and simply have a huge box. Not an issue when you're simply out exploring but in a dungeon with elites who have high aggro radius you want to be able to sneak past them.

I voted female
(my female characters get friended more often than my male ones)
Death school (Attack and heal at same time= easier soloability)
and wing mount (flight is smooth with no ups and down to set off my motion sickness, LOL)

Between my son and I, we have a grandmaster in every school. I like the survival rate of life, but battles are longer because of low firepower and no group attack before level 58. Death has a good balance of attack and heal. Ice has highest health, but gets their power boosts later than any other school. Fire has damage over time spells. Nice to heal up while the enemies fry. Storm = Massive firepower, but accuracy is lousy, there are no in-school heals, and health is lowest of all schools. Balance is just plain fun and parties well. Myth is just so-so. Too many mobs are myth type or storm that casts myth shields on first turn, but myth minions are aggressive and helpful in battle and your first minion cost no mana to summon.

So have fun! I don't play much anymore since Celestia is near impossible to solo, but I loved it up to that point.

I love this game. I chose Fire school for you because I'm Fire and I'm very biased.

If you want big hits Fire comes in right after Storm. Of course, both have high fizzle rates. For solo work Death, Balance and Life are good schools. Ice has longevity but it doesn't hit big unless it is paired with Fire/Storm. Myth is a strange school. It is Wizard 101's pet class. You need that minion because Myth doesn't have a lot of health.

I hope you enjoy the game!

Welcome to Wizard101!
ok, you didn't have it as a choice, but you really need one of the cats as your mount: lion, lioness, or bengal tiger. These mounts are close to the ground, and do not hinder your point of view as much as the others. wings look cool, but get in the way of your screen. when I use my wings, I tend to miss reagents and such. go with the lion!

Also, if you are going to stick with the free to play section, you got to find a friend to help you get into 2 towers. 1 in olde town, which isn't too impressive but ok, and stormdrain tower which has Lord nightshade, Lord Nightshade drops cool lvl 10 gear, and a couple pets that are nice to have. Also, around Holidays, he is usually the one that drops special holiday gear, that you would otherwise have to buy crowns for.
This will take you a little while, as it is in triton avenue, and you don't get there till lvl 5-6. There are 2 other streets off of olde town, firecat alley, and cyclops lane which are not free to play, and youy usually don't get to fight nightshade until you finish the other 2 streets.
But, if you have a friend who can get in, you can port in to them after they go in.
You also get a cool badge for defeating Nightshade, "Savior of Wizard City"
ok, good luck, and happy wizarding :)
