Sports games are not a genre I usually like or play, so I wouldn't be interested in a sports MMO. I like games that stand the test of time. Any of the Madden games basically last ayear before they become totally outdated.

It really would not work in terms of an MMO. With games like madden where you can recruit players, train them, etc, etc, there is no real need for it in the market place.

Sports and mmos are by far a match made in heaven. Sports have very strict rules limiting the number of players in a game and that goes against the nature of an mmo. The best you could hope for in a sports-mmo is a heavily instanced experience, but isn't that essentially what console sports games already are?

I would be interested in an American Football Online.

Why? Cause I like it AND I'm a girl and I can't play it in RL D:

What a shame.

MAdden Ultimate Team Mode in Madden 11 is the closest to a sports MMO I have ever played. You start off with a pack of cards. The cards are players, which all have a contract of 10 games. The starter pack is filled with all bronze level cards. They have low ratings and you've never heard of the players...but you can filed a team. You earn coins by playing the computer or online against players with similar team ratings. The coins are used to buy new packs of cards. There is also an auction house called the trading block to buy or sell cards. They have promotions sometimes with special cards or double coin weekends.

The goal is to build the best team possible and take it online. You can also buy coins with real moeny, which hurts the game...but you can ususally dominate a team bought with money.

In a fantasy game, I can shoot fireballs, control animals, and am immortal. In a sci-fi game, I can be a clone with portable consciousness and laser guns. In a sports game, I can, throw a ball and.......wait........I can go play sports in real life.

With liberal interpretation of rules and sports in general, imagine if the whole world of a game like WoW or Rift was a giant rugby pitch

Sports games are better served Multiplayer and left out of the massive scale. I personally prefer to control the whole team myself and set up great plays just to get past the defence. All sports that know of just aren't massive enough to turn into an MMO

Only real way I could see it happening is if it was based on management. Kind of like the Championship Manager series of games. Overall though I don't Sports are a good fit for an MMO. I"m a big sports fan but I can't even get myself excited to play the console sports games, let alone an mmo based one.

Sports can be a good fit, but most MMOs these days are based around you, not a team. So only sports like Golf (which has a few MMOs for it, if you look) really get MMO games.

NO NO NO. Keep the bro's out of our MMO's. Any self respecting nerd should scoff at the testosterone-addled gladiators that adorn the top of this page.

I can get behind something like this. A league where one person controls one player. Another player could be the coach.

It could work.
