So many haters in here! I'm not dickriding Trion Worlds but the beta has been amazing and I haven't played a MMO since EQ2 went f2p.

Considering that Massively's own have given this game mediocre reviews at best, touting bland on-rails questing and everything we've already seen before in numerous other "worlds", I don't think Trion is anything more than an annoying chihuahua barking obnoxiously in the face of an increasingly annoyed doberman.

@Infurn
" touting bland on-rails questing"
and yet Wow Cata has the same thing and got a good review from them.

Why is that?

Don't get ahead of yourself RIFT.

After watching some gameplay videos I don't even want to sign up for the beta. If I wanted to play WoW, I'd go play WAR or LOTRO or any of the action bar press 123 to win MMOs out there.

I like it that they (Trion) is getting ballsy. If your familiar with the game, they certainly have a very strong position to stand on. WoW has less and less redeeming qualities with each year that passes, and Rift is going to succeed at breaking that dulldrum.

Let's stop saying "never take on WoW" cause if your an mmo no matter what genre or payment model you are in some way or form. Just be honest about it. Still I agree Rift feels a lot like WoW... with far better character designs and mandatory public quests:P Which I like. You can't just let those guys just sit there. It just grows and gets worse.

While I'm not nearly as excited about rift as TOR or GW2 I can't help but think it'll fit my style far better than Azaeroth ever did. The reality is that subjectively the two are pretty similar. Both having plus's and minus's. For people without any prior attatchment to either. One will generally do as well as the other. WoW's never gotten it's hooks in me.. so it's not some humongous thing to me.

I don't see any reason this game won't be profitable in the long run. The fail/pass attitude many have is misplaced. As long as it's in the black the game has a place on the market.

Played in the WoW beta and the game was nice looking, but the game itself was boring as heck. Quests were generic and not fun. Rifts were boring. This game couldn't keep up with WoW at all.

@danubus : You're not comparing a game that's been around for more than half a decade with one that has not even been released yet, are you?

Well, I got a chuckle out of it. I'll probably check it out when there's a free trial, but I have no desire to spend money on it when I enjoy the world of Azeroth.

As a WoW player for the past 6 years, I have to say... I had a blast in the Rift beta. The only thing that really stops me from buying it is the hardware requirements. My X2 6000 with a 4870 graphics card just don't get me great framerates in Rift (sitting between 20-28fps).

@Bhima

Dude im using an 8600 GT and it runs the game just fine on high/ultra. System requirements are so very low.

@Bhima yeah there are performance issues for a lot of people, even those with powerful systems - they are working on it though, I'm fairly certain these issues will be ironed out before release :)

Why is every new game coming out STILL trying to be the WOW killer?

It's like steak makers are trying to kill off pork chops. Things don't work this way.

Regardless of it being good or not (have yet to play it, tried but haven't gotten in) its going to get some attention now. Not only if this starts showing up but if anyone uses Steam, it just showed up for pre-purchase.

On topic. Them's be fightin words indeed.

In the long run not mentioning another MMO would have been the better way to go..

...esp. when playing through the Rift beta's (while a lot of fun) has been more like playing WoW then any other MMO I've played in the last 3 years.

While it isn't to my tastes, Rift is a solid game that has the potential to be a serious player in this market. It's only real handicap v WOW is that it has much higher system reqs.

Kudos to TRION for throwing out this challenge.

Bit cheeky - they should aim at EQ2 instead - they've got far more chance of overtaking that than WoW :)

Rift is not that innovative - I played beta 3 and it's like WoW and EQ2 had a lovechild - but it is solid, fairly polished and feature-complete now, two months ahead of launch, and with the total fail launches of the past few years that is quite rare.

If you're not totally bored of EQ2/WoW-style MMOs, but are totally bored of the worlds/classes/communities/content of those two MMOs in particular, then you'll find a lot to like in Rift - it's probably the only new polished triple-A P2P PvE-focused MMO with a decent amount of content that you'll have seen for a long while.

It's not revolutionary, but it's not broken either - after the last few years that might be enough for a lot of people.
