Actually, I'd say the *launch* was fine. It's pretty much everything in the few weeks following that sucked. Launch itself was relatively smooth.

I was there no it wasnt and it got nothing but worse after.

bad server stability check
entire faction having no content check
buggy as hell check
community backlash check

yeah no that pretty much covers it. I will say they have made progress in listening to thier community in the months following but thier launch was terrible. Not the worst this year but definatly not good.

LOL - best crafting? Wow, I would have voted STO for worst crafting in a MMO. (lifetimer here)
STO would have been better if Cryptic had simply left crafting out totally.

Simply a sorry year in any case. The poll results stink of everything including voter fraud. Glad to see the catagories i voted on, "none of the above" and "does not exist" place very well in all events.

In the last grapf, at best F2P/freemium there's Warhammer online. Doesn't it still have a sub?

It should be mentioned, as many of you seem to have forgotten, that this was a poll of what the READERS of massively felt and has no reflection on anything the staff may or may not think. Given the language of the post, I'd say they are just as surprised as anyone.

@YogiFYG

the point is that the editors of Massively should have "felt" that there was cheating going on and canceled this.

@Fakeassname And what cheating would that be? A reader asked in the beginning if they were allowed to post on forums and Massively said that if they wanted to share the vote with the community that was fine. That is what STO did, everyone else failed.

"Could it be that Cryptic rallied hard to get its community in to win these awards? Possibly, but that option was open for every game nominated."

I'll be the first to admit, not my favorite poll results, but cheating? Cmon now. Don't be bitter because the results don't reflect YOUR feelings.

OMG these polls made my day. Seriously people if you like reading mmo's websites, you have a solid image of what's going on and you know the truth, even if you may be tempted to vote for your favorites.

STO that will receive good publicity as "best" rewards : NO
Best community of the decade : LOTRO and WoW equal : NO
Best expansion of the decade Eye of the North (as much as I like Guild Wars, still playing it, you can't consider it an expansion so good as Mines of Moria or Burning Crusade (and I dislike WoW but you must stand up for the truth sometimes), for instance.

I'm puzzled that massively which i read every day because it has a lot of passionate and knowledgeable writers would would indulge in such uselss and ludicrous polls, but i'll gladly read the editors' polls where you can expect professionalism and openness to equilibrate fanboyism and/or blatant fraud.

I voted "None of the Above" on 90% of the 2010 polls... not because I thought another game deserved to win, but because I didn't think ANY of the games in 2010 were particularly praise-worthy.

This year was very disappointing when it came to MMOs.

A better article would've just been commenting on the overall suckiness of 2010 for the mmo market. From cryptic to APB from Blizzards realid to DCUO's not so surprise surprise delay. I really hope 2011 is better >

Blizzard is the worst MMO studio of the decade? I mean, really? The poll just lost all credibility.

@Jade Effect
Not really, 12 million customers and counting.. you are bound to have a few thousand former (angry) players. Blizzard probably loses more customers in a month then some MMOs see in a lifetime.

I am not surprised at STO doing so well.

Being head of Recruitment in 12th Fleet, a lot of people put on their application that they are coming back to STO because it is so much better now.

A lot of what was awful in Season 1 etc is being slowly rectified and STO looks to have a bright future ahead.

C'mon guys, it doesn't matter. That's why the intelligent gamer makes their own decisions either based on a lot of research or actual in-game experience.

I have no doubt if you check the forums for STO and possibly others, people were rallying the community to come vote. As others have already said, it's whoever ends up doing better at convincing players to vote.

Oh well.

I believe this is how Runes of Magic did so well with this poll last year. Forcing Massivley to post their own staff awards. I am surprised they didn't learn from that lesson. This is frankly embarrassing, IMO.

@Phel0n There wasn't.

There was one News post by Cryptic announcing that it was nominated, but nothing else, at least, not on the STO forums, which i follow fairly religiously
