@Cavadus "Wow, I feel like I can never take this website seriously again."

Because Massively is totally responsible for the way people voted, right?

Or are you suggesting they rigged the polls or something? Because it's very easy for the voters themselves to abuse polls like this.

@Eamil Actually, the methodology of the poll is a little bit amateurish. The ambiguities in the data don't really allow you to come to an actual conclusion. Take best and worst studios for example. Blizzard got 1750~ votes for best, 1250~ votes for worst. That's an aggregate total of plus 500 positive votes. ArenaNet got 1600~ votes, and not enough votes to be included in the table for worst, which we can assume means that they have an aggregate total of plus 1600 - but they're second place.

The first four polls completely ridiculously favor STO, placing it way beyond any reasonable expected result, that the only possible conclusion is that the results aren't indicative of the MMO player base as a whole, and instead only of a subset of MMO players, likely the people rallied by Cryptic to vote.

I guess all I'm saying is, take it with a grain of salt. That's all it's worth.

What a truly pathetic, fanboi-rigged bunch of results. Sad, sad, sad.

The only thing I find confusing is that anyone finds STO's wins confusing.

It's Star Trek. Just take a second and look at the games it is up against IN the polls it won, as well. Sorry, but Perpetuum would not win for crafting when confronted with the juggernaut that is Star Trek. In other words, WHO should have won, if NOT Star Trek? Remember -- look at the categories and the games in the categories.

I can guarantee you that the votes were the result of, if anything, an older community that 1) communicated 2) understood HOW to vote 3) communicated. If you think that STO is dead, dying or tiny -- you'd be wrong. Obviously.

Congrats to all the winners, and of the MMOs mentioned are well deserving of an award. No matter what any cynical or angry gamer says -- it was indeed a good year to be an MMO player.

@Beau Hindman

Sorry Beau... if STO won because it was the best of the crap, then no, it was NOT a good year to be an MMO player.

As an "older gamer" you may recognize this meme: "Beau don't know MMOs"

@Lethality Yeh, I recognize how silly it is when people use a 20 year old reference on me. :)

As always, you hit the nail on the head.
STO is Star Trek - the franchise is huuuge and at the moment STO is the only new offering on that field. Everything else is re-runs at this point, so 2010 was a good launch window for it.

I was most surprised by the Best Expansion of the Decade not being a Blizzard product.

@Beau Hindman

blaming STO's obviously manipulated result on fan-boy-ism is redunkulus, the biggest haters of STO ARE the the trekies!

so don't give me that BS, ROM's "big" win last year was due to PR from the developer, this is simply just cheating.

Why even post these results? Just have an article that says there was a technical difficulty, or some such.

In related news, Star Trek Online won Best Fantasy MMO, Best Browser-based MMO, Most Anticipated Title of 2013, Longest Running MMO, Best MMO inspired by Farmville, and Most Accurate Swordplay.

Goes to show how useless these things actually are. Star Trek was all but gag-inducing, and yet looking at this it looks incredible.

Cryptic did link to this poll in their News, one time, nothing else. I think that's legit.
It's not like they made a big deal out of it or told the players to go vote 10 times a day...

But i have to agree Crafting and PvP in STO is just not worth mentioning...
well Crafting just got an update and ist soooo sucky anymore but that was a good while after the poll here was mentioned in the News, so i would not count the latest update.

Well, at least they got one thing right with FFXIV being this year's universal disappointment.

Well, if STO got its crafting votes after the Season 3 revamp I can see that it got a few votes because of that.

Games like Perpetuum probably have moe involved crafting systems, but there are not so many that have played it

Haha! Love that Massively's typical Cryptic Hate Club is going crazy. Gratz STO!

I'm kind of surprised we didn't see the 40K MMO place in either of the "Most Anticipated" categories. Doesn't bode well for their marketing engine!
