The absolute worst and fanboyish poll results I have ever seen. Two thumbs down.

This happens every year across multiple sites. It's not which game is the best, it's which game can direct the most of its community to vote.

It was just a question of which game did it the best this year, which fell to STO.

@GaaaaaH

Since "best" is entirely subjective and completely up to each and every individual the act of choosing "best" can only be done in exactly the way you described, even though you somehow made is seem shady and/or incorrect.

ZOMGWTFBBQ! STO won some awards! It must be fanbois!

Ok ... so STO got some kudos and most of the Cryptic haters disagree. Lets face it. In a years of pretty much crap rollouts, it appeared to be the least crap to some people. Not only that, it was released in February, and had improved to a reasonable degree over the last 11 months, that some people seem to have forgotten how crap it was at release.

I have to agree that some of the polls are a little incongruousness (I mean what the hell is up with winning crafting), but in the end, it seems to have been the best of a pretty boring year for MMOs.

As for tha fanboi comment, if STO can muster a big enough fan base to vote for it while the other have not, then surely that says something.

@notuba

So people casting their vote for a game they like is dismissed as "fanboyish poll results"?

Interesting...

So people who voted for Barack Obama in 2008, or George Bush in 2004, were fanboys? I'm not sure what the distinction is here.

As for Cryptic rallying its community to garner votes...they put an announcement up on the STO homepage...I'm not sure if that qualifies as "rallying"...but who am I to say?

I have a REALLY hard time believing that STO is deserving of such positions in poll results. PvP and "Surprise Hit"? Methinks not. Also, as notuba said, "fanboys" indeed. Blizzard may be many things, but they're not the Worst MMO Studio of the Decade.

Actually, given that STO also nearly took "Biggest Disappointment" I think the fact that it scored so high in the other categories is more a matter of it stinking less than the other pathetic offerings of 2010.

If you took a poll of the 10 preferred methods to die, there's still going to be a winner. But that doesn't mean the majority of people aren't going to prefer living. :)

It's a numbers thing, more people play WoW so of course there will be more people upset with the way Blizzard runs things. I play WoW every once in a while and I think its kinda pathetic they do things like release 2 pets for $10 the same day their anniversary and not giving the people the usual pets they have in the past, or just the lazieness they seem to present with fixing things in a game that is fueled by 12 million+ people paying.

Now don't take that as WoW or Blizz is terrible, they are far from the worst and yes very far from the best or as good as they could be. They could concede a little of their profits by giving more back or hiring more people to speed up the imbalances and bugs the game has while still basically being the top MMO with a license to print $$$.

As far as STO taking all the awards, yes STO isn't a great MMO but if you look at everything else that came out this year(retail games, not expansions) it might as well be the WoW of 2010.

@ScottishViking I'd have to say that in many respects Blizzard IS the worst MMO Studio of the Decade for producing such a good game and then letting it become the gold standard of trolls, poor customer service (seriously, over half an hour to talk to a GM because they can't afford to hire more GMs?), and in general doing nothing to discourage players from making the game a miserable experience for other players. WoW is famous for people being jerks and ultimately it's Blizzard that lets them act like this in exchange for their $15 a month. So when you look at WoW's potential and then look at how the game actually is ... it's really too bad. And Blizzard isn't powerless to prevent this from happening the vast majority of MMOs don't have nearly that much nastiness between players and I'm sure if the vast majority of companies can handle it, Blizzard should be able to. But Blizzard really doesn't give a crap about it.

Considering how many people voted for "None of the above" in just about *every* category, I think that you have very incomplete results. I know that I ended up voting that way for almost all of them because the games I felt deserved tho win in any given category weren't listed. It would be interesting to have seen this poll done seriously instead of it being just slapped together with whatever games the poll creator could think of off the top of their head.

I'm not usually critical, but the best crafting in a 2010 MMO is handing mats to an NPC to buy the crafted item?

@Bri Responce to Crafting

They fixed crafting in STO, you actually craft stuff yourself now, the game has improved 10 fold since launch, and I've been playing since launch.

Its sad that i really do believe Cryptic either rallied its players to poll here or just made a ton of fake account to win these polls.

im actually VERY suprised cryptic didnt win worst studio. Failing 2 large mmo communities in the span of like 2 years is pretty horrid (although i admit they have rallied somewhat with sto...but even so.)

I agree that the results are rigged by voting with multiple IPs or cleared cookies (not sure how the voting was handled so I couldn't say) or the polls were flooded by fanboys. I'm not saying STO isn't a good game but I know these results are a little untruthful.

no shit, although I think this is more of a case where a white hat was trying to prove a fault in the system than some black hat going rabid fan-boy over STO.

What? Did you expect fans not to vote for the games they love? lol.

Interesting to see Star Trek on the top of some of those, and with such a huge lead. I am curious how much the community promoted the vote compared to other games. As the staff said though, all fair game.

Love to see LotRO as best F2P conversion after that month of just crap talking all over the web.

Interesting results that is for sure.

Way to go STO.

Thanks to the beauty of the internet, these results are facts that will be around forever. Like the Hitler meme, 'Rent is Too Damn High' and Justin Bieber.

How the hell did STO score so highly in so many categories? Seriously, it takes second place in *crafting*? Wow, I feel like I can never take this website seriously again.
