Of these five, the Firefly and Mummy MMOs sounded the most interesting to me. I hope they are still alive and kicking as MMO prospects.

I guess Infinity looks like the most potential.

All the rest I'd have absolutely no interest in whatsoever, considering at least three would be badly regurgitated IPs.

Which is the usual way of the IP.. trash.

hmm they probably went MIA cause they were all pretty bad ideas... I loved Firefly and Buffy but I really just can't see any good coming out of MMO'ing either. The rest... meh.

Just last month I was trying to remember the name of Otherworld. It's a shame it's gone quiet -- it sounded like an interesting idea, though I didn't realize it was based on an existing IP.

...as for Otherland, I always thought doing an MMO about virtual reality kind of redundent...since MMO's are virtual realities to begin with. It's really like that Onion clip on "World of World of Warcraft," IMO...I'm just not sure that concept could ever fly.

@Utakata

I just wanted to play in some of the worlds that Tad Williams created. Imagine zoning from Mars to Ancient Egypt, and then zoning to a bizarre version of Alice in Wonderland.

There is no end to what was/is possible with this IP.

We haven't heard much about Planetside Next, nothing really since 2009. The Agency is also semi-missing. SoE doesn't seem to be very big on marketing or hype though. I'm having trouble getting all but the most basic info about DCUO for example.

Jumpgate Evolution is somewhat mysterious. I hope NetDevil didn't run out of gas or money for the project. You'd think Lego would help keep the lights on. But I don't know whether they're going to make or lose money on that project.

There are some released games where we don't hear from the developers much. Vanguard is a good example. Another one seems to be Warhammer Online. The news feed on its homepage hasn't been updated since September, even though there have been more recent posts on the Herald page. Carrie hasn't brought herself (or been given permission to) do a producer's letter since October. And there's been silence from any real developers for weeks, even after introducing game breaking bugs.

So Otherland was a .hack ripoff?

@darzin

Otherland, the book series by Tad Williams, predates .hack.

I read it all, high on the quite enoyable Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series. Otherland was not so good. No big loss if this MMO doesnt make it.

I think the World of Darkness MMO should be up there somewhere. Seriously, in the 4, almost 5 years that the MMO has been known about, we've only recieved, what, one, grainy trailer

Infinity is a bit of a pipe dream, but from what I understand it's still in development just more privately, and they only post when they have something really exciting to say. It is going to be a very, very long project.

One that is a more interesting MIA: Gatheryn, which went into Beta and was even playable..and then disappeared without another word from the developers to be heard again.

I was in the Gatheryn open beta. I thought it was interesting. I poked around a bit, went away, and then when I thought about it again, it was gone!

Infinity looks really good to me -- I hope it gets done.

The latest news from Atriarch is dated to the year 2000 and their so-called "2 Community Events Currently in Progress" is from 2004.

So... A game that started development in 1998, and have yet shown any pictures since the start of the new millennium... Its probably dead.

Stargate Worlds is gone. I don't know why people persist with the thought it might come back. It was an early alpha, and not a very good one, when it fell apart after blowing $50 million bucks plus.

I'd love to know whats happening with the Wheel of Time MMO that Red Eagle was supposed to be doing. There was once announcement a few years ago then bupkiss since.

Any substantive news on Sony's onetime spy-themed MMORPG, The Agency?

Last time I saw anything about it, it looked like it wasn't even an MMO game anymore -- just another online shooter.

I hope Blizzard is the one to revive it. Crossing my fingers
