And I'm still waiting for my beta invite. *hint hint* :)

Great to see that the dev team is working hard on the points criticized during the last beta events.

I played beta 1 and wasn't terribly impressed. The two signature systems, rifts and souls just didn't thrill me. Rifts felt like WAR's public quests and the souls wound up feeling like a hobb's choice. Taking those items out of the equation, the game didn't feel like anything new or different. Certainly not something that could pull me away from what I'm already playing. As a result, I skipped beta 2.

The changes made with these notes are enough to bring me back for another look. It's going to be interesting to see how much they affect the game!

@aurickle I think this might just be a case of this is not the game for you. The Rifts and Soul systems are their stated only departure from the traditional mmo scene.

Let's be logical. MMO's are something that you invest a lot of time in. If you're already playing one or two, then there needs to be something special to bring you away from where you've already invested your efforts. So yes, if the rifts and souls are the only ways in which they're differentiating themselves from other MMO's then those systems had better be outstanding. Otherwise, Rift will at best end up following the path that Aion did.

These two systems were tried in the balance and found to be sorely wanting. Obviously, I was not the only person to have felt that way or the devs would not have made the changes that they did with beta 2 and now 3. So a comment like your response to me is frankly rather patronizing.

It's also self destructive. Rather than blowing people off and saying, "this isn't the game for you", you should be responding with something like, "the devs have actually listened to feedback on these things. Hopefully you'll find your time in beta 3 to be more fun!" Turning people away from an MMO is never good because these games languish when the population is limited.

@aurickle and if I was paid by Trion I would care far more about those things then I do, but I am not so I don't. You stated that you don't like the two signature features and all I did was state that this might not be the game for you. Not every game is for everyone.

The thing I just realized with what Trion worlds is doing which some companies do not, THEY LISTEN! I was sent a survey after beta 2 and i just RAILED on the soul system. I can't wait to get home and try the new one out. Will be defiant this time as I saw only guardians in beta 2.

I'm still afraid that it will turn out like Runes of Magic dual class system, where if you aren't x,y,z you will not be able to perform as well as a, b,c.
With as many souls as they have per arch type this can, and probably will happen unless you can remove souls...(which sounds weird to me)

Just found an invite to beta 3 from my spam mail...had been there for a while. Can't say I've read or heard much good about this one but I need to see it for myself.

Yeah I I agree with mttgamer, they LISTEN unlike other companies. You can tell with how they handle this game.

That's false. The game's performance is still terrible for a good amount of people. The Rifts are still generic as WAR's PQ's and that means they are boring quickly. The combat is also dull as watching paint dry, especially for melee.

So no, not every major thing was fixed. They fixed some small things but none of the big game killing stuff.

Meh, I don't think I'll even bother this time. I was in beta two and the game was definitely decent, but not much more than that. The Rifts and Soul System just don't cut it, for me. The gameplay still feels too generic to warrant my free time (and eventually money, if I were to sub). 2011 is shaping up to be a gamer's dream, in both MMOs and single player games, and I simply don't see Rift standing much of a chance in the world of WoW, SWTOR, GW2, Tera, etc..

Just got my first beta invite with beta3 and it's a big... meh. Just another run-of-the-mill MMO. Same generic gameplay. *still waiting for TERA and GW2*

Same. I enjoyed RIFT for a few hours. Leveled to 11, the rift system can be entertaining, but to be honest the game is just too... normal. Combat and quests are copied from WoW (somewhere between TBC and WotLK era quests). Everything else is just fairly standard. It's purely a "meh, it's good, but I dunno if I'd wanna pay money for it" experience. But I'm sure some will enjoy it and good for them, I hope they find RIFT as the MMO they were looking for. It's just not my MMO.

But I'm gonna be playing the TERA KOBT as soon as that starts (pre-selection starts tomorrow; test begins 1-11-2011) then of course playing it when it comes out to NA territories. And when GW2 comes out I'm gonna have a freaking orgasm. Game looks slick as hell. It's got RIFT's rift system, but improved tenfold and the rest of the game itself is also more unique than RIFT's WoW rip-off.

you can't say any game that isn't out will be better or has better systems or ten times as much depth. Rift is somewhat generic, but it is fun. They took some good ideas and combined them from the start.
I try to beta every mmo that comes out and this is the most polished I have seen by far. It may not be the most original, but it looks great and I haven't seen any real bugs in the 2 betas I got to take place in which is a big plus. I have yet to see anything about Tera that promises to be different as well. I hope I get to beta that one as well because I have heard people talking favorably about it.
