I'd definitely like to give it a whirl, but I don't buy MMOs without having tried them first anymore.

@Noviere Agreed. I'm not going to buy anything without trying it first.

Also I'm guessing that those system specs are probably the minimum requirements and not the recommended ones.

Come on - I mean I doubt there are even 1000 players in this market who would ever buy anything without a vague clue how it works.
One video is out yet ... no skill data, gameplay, beta, reviews of sites, NOTHING.
Really ... this sounds too odd to be even covered at Massively. I truly encourage Massively to take your threshold up and not cover these odd games.

@werewood What do you mean "Odd Games"? I've been following Earthrise rather closely and they have revealed quite a bit about how gameplay works and there is far more than one video. They also had a beta but like almost every other game, it was covered by an NDA :P

Masthead has kept Earthrise a little closer to itself than over devs do, but there's plenty of information out about it. Sure, there's no table showing all the skills (why you would want that is well beyond me), but among the many videos and screeshots, dev diaries, and interviews (both in videos with accompanying gameplay and text), I can surely say more is released then you think.

I still won't be buying it until I read a few positive reviews.

@werewood

Only highly funded marketing campaigns are deserving of coverage? Sorry, I like this site because its not IGN and they actually cover things in addition to the top three or four MMO titles.

Let's not forget this site did some pre launch coverage of both Darkfall and Mortal Online, both titles that people claimed were scams. Darkfall at least turned out to be legit and has a solid community and is lasting longer then people said it would. I prefer my sites to just give me what info is out there and let me decide, not tell me what is worth my time to even consider.

I dunno, we cover a lot of games that are far more obscure than Earthrise. Tbh, the site would be pretty stale if all we did was write about the AAAs.

I just got about 2 minutes into the beta footage of the game on their site and frankly, it is nothing I would want to put on my website as a show off in this day and age it looks so alpha it is not even funny. I am sorry to all the fans out there, but it just looks sad.

Ok people - didn't mean to offend Massively. I take that part back. I can see the logic in Jef Reahard's reply.

Maybe a better way to say it is to call out for the community to set a threshold for MMOs in general. And for Massively to call out obscureness when its due. I can see how open beta is not something most developers will do - but as a community we need to set some line which will protect us from desperate studios which regardless of the shape of their creation must release immediately.

Hope that this may sound less offensive.

@werewood

Good clarification for sure, and I agree with it. I have for awhile now adopted a position of rarely buying and playing on launch day. I have over the years developed almost a feeling of being taken for granted as an MMO player. It has gotten worse in recent launches with a few exceptions.

I have been a big supporter of DCUO but since the announcement of a launch in just two weeks I have begun to seriously question if I will support it on launch day, or even launch month. I still enjoy the game, just can not imagine paying beyond the box yet for that title.

Earthrise is a title I have been curious about since reading their statements of an advanced crafting system, but without any real meat to their claims and no personal try at gameplay I am in the 'no support at launch' camp.

I didn't take offense, was just throwing my opinion out there. I guess Earthrise isn't very obscure to me because I have my ear to ground for even the barest hint of a sandbox, and have been following it for well over a year.

Anyhow, it's all good, thanks for reading.

Lol, you keep arguing for cheaper stuff against the wind. I like that attitude. So fiesty! You go boy!

Meanwhile in modern day news:

"Online gaming rakes in over $14.5 billion in 2010".

People still have or at least spend money on games and gadgets without batting an eye. If you find yourself on the outside as prices are going up, you may want to rethink your hobbies, but I doubt you're going to change some collective conciousness here.

You're mad because developers won't support dial up? (I'm amazed if you don't have dsl/cable).

Oh and I don't think you know how computers work.

I think I'll wait until we get some more information on this one. I've really been looking forward to it but I also want to wait and see if it will be worth the money.

My thoughts may change when the game comes out (I always get antsy and buy it when I told myself I'd wait :P) but we'll see.

Really high hopes for this though.
