It's $20 for the race, and $30 for the extras if you buy all at once, $45 if you buy the extras piece by piece.

If you haven't played it by now, then you were never going to play it. But I suspect you were attempting to be a humorous troll but failed again.

And its free with the expansion...if people want it early, they can fork over the cash. EQ2X has to pay anyways.

Really? A lot of people I know left EQ1 for WoW and never went to EQ2, but the Wrath expansion really screwed with the power curve, not everyone's happy with Cataclysm, and F2P games have been getting a lot of good press. SOE just released EQ2X a few months ago, there's a new expansion pack coming, and there were just a couple of sales on StationCash or prepaid SC cards. Between that and the inevitable surge of Christmas money, it's not unreasonable to believe that a lot of people might've been looking at EQ2 seriously for the first time.

$20 for a race, then another $5-45 to unlock that race's abilities, is an incredibly poor way to introduce newcomers, and their business model here is set up such that dedicated fans are being told to either pay an extra $20 upfront or wait until sometime in February to get the new playable race, so SOE, once again, managed a twofer: sticker-shocking potential customers and alienating/exploiting loyal customers.

The race is free if you wait. And you buy a house, a cosmetic ability and a speed boost. You aren't buying spells for a class or anything these are all purely cosmetic. You can own a normal house without buy, you can get a horse without spending real money. It's all extras.

I'd like to see some more evidence to the alleged WoW-death you're referring to. Your anecdotes are not quite cutting it for me.

Yes, I'm sure there are people who were not happy with Wrath or are in rage over Cataclysm - but you need to share some real numbers before you can jump to conclusions.

The reason they do this is because people lay down and say "well, pets and horses are ok". Give them an inch, and they will charge you a mile.

I think they ARE part woodchuck, if you look, each big "fang" is made up of two small fangs...

The question now is...
"How much blood could a vampire chuck if a vampire chuck could chuck blood?"

WTF?! Let me guess, they can happily walk around in sunlight too? Way to throw your lore under the bus for a shot at some Twilight loose change.

I guess we now know why DCUO is releasing with only 6 power choices. They'll just release the other powers they took away like Might & Mastery as over priced station items.

Let's see spend $50 on a race and some corny particle effect racial abilities, OR spend $40 on Cataclysm and get an entire true expansion pack's worth of content? Hmm, that's a real tough choice $OE.

Oh, man, don't do the S=$ thing. It didn't kill Microsoft and it won't kill SOE

Station Cash is coming to DCUO. They unveiled a nice little shopping cart in the main menu. Nothing in it right now, except the words "COMING SOON!"

Oh man did you really just try to bring back Penny Arcade? Why not the doobie doobie doo Penguin? Or go back even further like "Where's the Beef?" =P

Penny Arcade is still wildly popular, and that was an apt use of a link to their comics. I can envision, with great difficulty mind you, someone who doesn't like PA, but to compare it so is ludicrous. I'm 26 and haven't heard "Where's the Beef?" outside of Youtube, and I have absolutely zero idea what that penguin thing is supposed to be a reference to.

Everyone bitching here would've forked out $25 for Worgen or Goblin if Blizzard gave them the option to before the expansion came out.

@ManaByte This is true. The question here is: is it worth it? That's up to the individual. I heard someone referring to this as "poor design" as though the people who will buy the race and be very happy are not customers, and not valuable.

SOE values those people, and should. SOE has also been, for many years, releasing amazing content for this game. This is an optional race, with optional options on top of those options. If the price is too high, don't pay it. They will learn more from people avoiding purchase than people simply saying it's a "dumb idea" while others are obviously enjoying it.
