I am so psyched to play this game!

The linearity of it had me worried when I took part in the beta events. It's a gorgeous game to look at, the soul system is really cool, character models are awesome and the combat feels fluid and fast. But it was so damn linear. Start in camp 1, do a few quests, get sent to camp 2, do a few more quests, camp 3, here I come, etc. Hardly any time to stop and smell the roses. Or demonic, interplanar invasions.

So I'm glad it's only an initial problem. Telara, from the little bits I have seen, seems like a great world to explore.

great article, i was in beta myself but like you pointed out it's better to explore the world slowly. I found myself missing a sweet lv 3 cleric shield with 260+armor in guardian side.

From what I "heard" imagine one huge Theme-Park. Rifts being dynamic content which is nice.
For WoW PvE players there seem to be finally a valid alternative with RIFT. Meaning a good financial prospect for Trion.
Nice - but recently I can't bare WoW either. For me ... I am thinking either sand-box (Darkfall) or a more action instance based game (pre-ordered DCUO).

LotD has posted its Beta #2 gameplay evaluation to the guild's public forum in case anyone's interested.

Not much to get excited over. It just sounds standard, with the quirks of the soul system, and looks standard: ugly character creation, WoW-influenced skill trainers, same old achievements to kill immersion, typical looking pets, etc...

I think we need to see more of the midgame,because this tutorial isn't selling me.

Chararcter Creation and Art style remind me of Aion.

That's not a good feeling, IMO, but I will "drag myself to the computer and attempt to be positive and give it a try" once it comes out...

@Space Cobra Why is that not a good feeling? Aion's character creation and Art style were amazing. The best of its time, imo. It was the rest of Aion that sucked balls.

@Somnicide

Oh, I agree that I liked the Character Creator in Aion...

But it is so similar to Aion's that it forbodes ill-tidings and gives me goode-bumps. I mean, a shark can have a lovely dorsel fin, but the rest of the body (game) could be something totally different! :P

But, I look forward to trying the actual gameplay out and seeing for myself (and hopefully don't encounter Aion-gameplay mechanics after such a character creator).

The souls, the rifts and the EQ2-style collections sound great - I just hope the rest of the game has more innovations and that basic gameplay is fun.

Not liking how linear the newbie experience sounds - that could really kill replayability - though I guess with the way the soul system is set up I'll only need 4 characters at most.

Right now you get Zero choice on souls. You get what Trion wants you to have or what they feel is a good pairing and a rather limited pool, they need to open this pool to whatever you want and whatever you want to combine.

I wanted an assasin that could heal, you wont see it, other than the weak party bard. Other classes are very sweet with (warrior/clerics) healers and put out great dps, i rarely lost a duel but fighting healers can be a long drawn out process as you kill them 20 times before they finally go down.

Also the rare loot from the motes of stone are not nearly as good as the faction items, at least to level 20. I found the best i could get with motes was a full point or more behind what i could get at the same blue level in a faction, example, motes would get me the badges and the combination of badges/motes would get me a nice blue wep at say 6 dps, but the faction items from killing and questing those same rifts would bring 7.9 or higher weps.

Not hard to make a choice there, but then the motes can be used to buy some great trinkets such as 2 to 5 slot foci that can house varying degrees of buff/resist planar items that can be slotted. I saw one belt gem in both betas so i will assume other armor will get the same treatment.

The rifts need a better system as the big dog AOE characters will ALWAYS take the best loot, so bow out of the riftwars if your solo or casual as you wont be healed and you wont do enough damage to get anything but the motes and maybe a gree trash drop if your lucky enough to get a kill.

The devs have been warned about this as we already saw roving gangs of "rift sweepers" that did nothing but travel from rift to rift sucking everything up. It not fun at all getting one or two kills from the trash mobs of a rift and pour your heart into all the pretagged mobs knowing your not going to get jack but the consolation prizes. This is a simple gamebreaker in my eyes, rift rewards need to be a set level for everyone, say 1-3 motes and dust for participating and the epic/good rewards need to be random or the system will be abused by the soupmakers that will do nothing but scour the land for rifts.

My warning to you. Happy Holidays!

@Graill440

Your comments about the loot distribution and Rift whores are certainly disconcerting and what I was worried about. Hopefully the devs will address it somehow, unlike Cryptic who didnt do anything about it (as far as I know) in STO so only the highest levels and most powerful got any decent loot from its "dynamic events"!

Guardian Paladin - Low level (I had technical issues that prevented capturing anything past the first 57 minutes), but being as there aren't that many videos up yet I thought I would share.

This game is going to be awful. MMO devs need to understand there must be more than two starting areas in a game or most of us will leave before end game.

Wow, never seen that kind of character editor before. *yawn*

God damn, I want to love some new MMOs, but they're trying so hard not to be original or push boundaries. 2004 wants its character editor back.

I have so far enjoyed the game, I am an acheviement hound tho, and i have to say i was SERIOUSLY disappointed when i hit 7 with no deaths and did not get the "cautious" ach or the accompanying title.....then 8, and 9, still no deaths but still no ach or title either.
