@Dumac There is just too much to say about it! The soul system though is something that i pray doesn't end up like Runes of Magic( There are tons of combinations. But you are an idiot if you don't pick X, Y, Z when healing, tanking, dps etc)

@mttgamer Its true, there IS so much to say. A lot of bad stuff :S But i feel like i have to give the game a chance, its not like i didn't have fun in the betas, but there are many shortcomings.

Specifically regarding the soul system, the level cap was too low to experiment with it (and im not a fan of fast leveling so i didn't even get to level 20, got to 18 in the first beta, 16 in the second because i was busy and couldn't play much), and they don't have any synergy at lower levels. Since souls are basically classes, they are designed to be self sufficient and have a lot of overlapping 'basic' abilities. They need to work on that.

I don't want to be too harsh on the game, but it does need a lot of work in other areas too, specifically combat animations and sounds, they need to decrease the reliance on quests, and they need to polish the hell out of rifts else the game won't be able to compare with other games of 2011.

@Dumac I couldn't agree with you more. If they don't polish the rift's then guild wars 2 (among other games) Will come along and STOMP them to the floor with their Dynamic Events.

@Dumac You stole the words right out of my mouth. With how the game played, I thought it was F2P at first. Not that I'm insulting it, but I simply couldn't imagine it competing with Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, Tera and other 2011 giants.

Cant really say alot about this title as its a mishmash of various game mechanics minus the innovation the developers have said was a major selling point. What you see in this title you have seen before, it just has arguably better graphics. Though the avatars are still below my standards.

What have i liked through the first two betas, not much, though its a new MMO with a different look and feel it still uses old mechanics everyone will recognize, no innovation here.

Character creation is very limited as is the vanity clothing look, armor and weps, everyone WILL look like everyone else. Of course this is a problem in the majority of MMO's out there.

Rifts are interesting and boring at the same time. These are a takeoff from Tabula Rasa. Boring in that their were tons, maybe this was for beta we will see. Interesting in the sense we were told they would take over entire areas, this never happened, though rifts did take small outposts and rez points in which you respawn only to be killed instantly, this was addressed and hasnt been fixed yet. Maybe during the third beta they will take over something significant.

Of note, even during huge battles, 200-450 folks including the Rift npcs and deviant npcs the majority of battles were lag free, again, have a good machine.

Crafting....still out on it, though the early stages it seems to be fine, if they can get the node respawn upped a bit.

Combat is like any other MMO out there, absolutely nothing new or innovative and many folks that like creating macros for one button wonderment like in wow will be disappointed, The Global Cooldown prevents this, apparently Trions way of trying to crush botting. Mobs currently have a huge aggro radius, not a problem for me but some found it distasteful.

Dungeons do not scale. Meaning you will need the standard party makeup that ALL MMO's use. Looking for groups can be a pain just like any MMO out there, you will not be able to find folks in off times to fit your needs and if you want to go in solo or in two's or threes, it isnt happening, no innovation here.

Souls, roles, what can be said, many of you have seen this done in both ways in various MMO's. In my opinion the soul portion is questionable, if you utilize all three soul spots your character WILL be weaker than say someone putting all their skillpoints into one tree, that said, a couple of the first tier sould skills are nice. In one instance i had a nightblade with a pet with an instacast bard attack buff. Not all souls have these perks and you will be limited to what Trion wants you to have in the way of choices of souls. Roles are the same as any other MMO, see Wow. A way to try and give folks alt skillsets when other dungeon delvers arent around, still limited in choice here though for your class.

Mounts, at 20.

Animations, Take it or leave it, nothing special.
World Graphics to me looked great, i have the power to run it, many had problems with the demands. The world look is like a LOTR setting only more serious. Music was standard and nothing special, in my opinion many scores did not meet the areas ambiance, and everyone hated the one little annoying special music score that was scratchy and distorted, hopefully they will fix this.

Same faction grinds, same rep grinds, same quests, same combat, same dungeons, No innovation at all, though we havent tried pvp yet...maybe its in there?

Casual play and solo play? Doable as i see it but like any other MMO you wont be seeing the epic content as the dungeons are not scalable as they are in DDO, and even that title has party only content. Again, no innvovation. I decided to go solo and was happy until i found i could not enjoy the dungeons at my own pace as the groups wanted to blow through them like in any other MMO out there. As with any dungeon it is on the rails and interesting one time to go through.

I will say for a beta the game is very *polished* and in making that statement it feels more like a pre release stress test than anything else.
Other than balancing character power tweaks and rift appearances i have seen zero done in the way of bugs for the UI and or observations for the release, this is why this "beta" feels like a tweak session for release and not a true beta. Three big patches and next to nothing was done in the way of what the crowd seemed to think was important, not saying that it still might be changed for launch, we just didnt see the notes.

I couldn't disagree more with the other posters here. Rift in beta is more polished than most MMOs on launch day. And considering that Trion has shown off what amounts to the first 10-20 hours of the game, it's impossible to judge how good or bad Rifts or the soul system will be. I'm thrilled to hear that they are giving out more soul points, though; it feels very frustrating right now because there are so many possibilities, but no way to experiment with it. And even with 50 points (the max if you get one point per level, as it seems it was designed), you would only be able to fully max out one soul if you ignored your other two. I don't think we should be able to max out one soul, but you should at least have enough points to max one, and go a decent ways down another, or a little bit down both of the other two.

@Wisdomandlore

I have to agree with Wisdomandlore, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time playing this game. Is it the most innovative game with uber-unique design features? No... and tbh, we really can't expect a game company to drastically change how MMO's play overnight because there is such a risk in even making an MMO to begin with. If you can look past the fact that this game isn't the greatest innovation in MMOs then you can truly see how solid, and fun this game is to play.

I say good luck to Trion, they made a solid MMO... lets see how the pricing structure works out for them with GW2 hot on their heels for the same customers but WITHOUT a subscription.

Is this game still being hyped as "complete and ready to go out of the box" and such?

Anyone in beta can tell me if that's just a marketing ploy or is this game really going to be ready and complete?

Did things look like it was going to shape up or not for that boast?

Really looking for a good PvE game right now with FFXIV tanking hard, so please enlighten...

@real65rcncom

Could they release it tomorrow? If the content is as polished and nearly bug free as the first levels, yes....should they? definately not.

any game that throws out a level cap during "betas" are games that always lack end game content. As much as I want a new mmorpg, I'm going to give this game a few months after release before I try it.

@Langx2

All I can say is, I saw the fastest response from a dedicated team I've ever seen in my whole MMO history.There was only 2 weeks between the first Beta and the second and they fixed most of what people didn't like and believe me it was a hell of a patch note.
