Have you been dreaming of the day when you could fly through space and shoot folks down, dogfighter-style? Did you think that the best part of Star Wars Galaxies was the Jump To Lightspeed addition? Well, if that's the case, then you're in for a treat as the NDA has finally been lifted on Reakktor Media's space battletastic MMO, Black Prophecy. As of today, all players are allowed to post screenshots, videos, and talk about everything they've seen in the last several months of testing since Black Prophecy was picked up by gamigo and worked into its current incarnation as a free-to-play game.
Also of note is that all of the beta forums for the game are wide open as well, giving curious folks a chance to sift through all the threads there for an inkling of how the game has been progressing, and what players can expect. We here at Massively will be publishing our own first impressions and gallery in the coming days -- and there will undoubtedly be a livecast in the mix for those curious to see it in action. If you still haven't made it into the closed beta, never fear: Open beta is expected to begin sometime in the first part of 2011, which isn't too far away. If you did make it in to this stellar shooter beta, feel free to drop your thoughts about the game in the comments below!

Really cant wait for feedback on this game - in theory it looks great and would be a refreshing change for an MMO, I just hope people that have tested it give it the thumbs up...!

NDA dropped ?
Ok.
So here is the deal
Gameplay : Take Freespace mix it with Freelancer and you have black Prophecy. It was long time since I seen this kind of quality of space flight model. ( Yes you can even strafe around asteroids and use them for cover/hiding)
Game: Highly instanced. Basically collection of the areas, either shared or private and tied to missions.
Dont expect EVE or any such kind of space simulation. Its very much a space shooter multiplayer game. A good one at that. But its all.
Basically game is very solid and delivers all what its set out to do.
Thumbs up !

I have to give it thumbs down. For me CB was more or less unplayable (from a technical view) and the whole game makes absolutely no sense to me. But maybe I'm just to stupid, who knows. ;)

Well there are some ppl who have a lot of trouble getting it to work on their system for various reasons that they are still working out. You should come back. There was a stability patch today. Maybe try reinstalling.

It made no sense for me either. On the first character I made it wouldn't start the actual gameplay part, I got stuck in the scene where camera flows amongst debris in space and stuff. Then made another character and read around the forums and ather ppl with my problem found that reducing graphics details to minimum let them play.
So on my second toon I managed to get to play and I was a turret stuck to a ship or station and kept shooting at incoming ships for quite a while until I got bored and exited. Re-entered on my 1st character and I was a small ship escorting some larger ship but it was so confusing, the texts in the windoes were't displaying properly, couldn't understand much. So when I was done with that battle I was near a space station where I assume I was supposed to dock. But couldn't figure out how, couldn't even select it.
Anyway, after that I decided to wait until I hear they fixed stuff and maybe give it a chance then cause I'm still interested in the game.

I'm not sure what was the problem. I found everything pretty easy to follow even back when almost the entire thing was in German. But they have fixed that problem for the most part. There are new tutorial windows that pop up to tell you what you should be doing during the prologue.

GREAT NEWS
I've continued to play Freelancer believe it or not hahaha.
There's been some heavy RP community in freelancer keeping the creative juices going by adding Freelancer Discovery Mod and own servers after MS closed its primary hub. I'll definitely be looking forward for this release.

This will be a wonderful game if they continue to listen to the testers and work out the crashes and bugs. And these guys do actually listen.
Lobotomist is pretty spot on. At any of the the stations you can request to do a variety of missions in different sectors. As a reward you will get loot that equals the lvl of the mission. You get to choose between 4 random rewards to outfit or upgrade your ship. That's on top of whatever you loot off of your kills.
As you lvl up you will get access to other stations and open sector. Each station has some missions to do that will take you into the open sectors where you will encounter npc's and pc's who may or may not care that you are there. One of the more challenging missions has you protecting a "cam-ball" that is being controlled by the news network.
As you lvl you will get skill points that you can allocate to different stats that gives you access to better equipment. You also have the ability to craft your own equipment with blue prints found from looting. You can also upgrade equipment using the loot you find. I don't remember if you will be able to buy upgrades.
As mentioned there are open sectors where you can go and kill to your heart's content. If you want to play it alittle safer, there is also supposed to be pvp matchmaking to do various pvp missions against the other side with varied objectives. I'm not the best person to comment on those since I have yet to test that end of things.
I had more I wanted to say, but I am drawing a blank right now.

@Kunari
Good thing is that even in the beta there seem to be ppl willing to route excessively brutal player if asked. After being beaten back a few time, you will usually be left alone to do whatever. Some ppl like the thrill of the kill.

I cannot believe they're almost ready to launch. I tried the game two months ago and it was not playable, bc bugs were quite plentiful and severe.
But the game is basically great addition to existing MMO offering with very distinct feel and gameplay. I would say take EVE, take away everything complex, add joystic controlled ships with very simple customization and you have something like BP. Character customization is good, fun. Ship customization good. It is an easy to play space simulation. Arcade-y space sim.... if that's a sim at all. But don't get mixed up by my mixed up commentary. It is a fun game and great addition for sure. Now... gonna go give it a new try. :)

I tried playing the game for a total of about 6-10 hours, and found it exceptionally hard. Now I'm not a spectacular twitch gamer to begin with, but I can usually hold my own. I think you'll need a joystick and a lot of patience. I hate MMO's where it takes multiple tries to complete one stupid mission.

Did joystick and throttle support ever make it in? I found mouse and keyboard to be very lacking when playing this early in the closed Beta and did not have time to participate as much as i would have liked to later on.

There are some ppl who like the joystick. I'm personally not a fan, but it has been a while since I tried to use it. So far mouse and keyboard seems to be the way for me.
