After spending hundreds of hours in the beta and "leveling" mutiple characters to 30, I had steam reimburse me for a canceled pre-order.

We'll see a flurry of disatisfaction well before the free month of DCUO is finished. DCUO is absolutely not ready for release. And certainly nothing is in game which would keep a customer beyond the initial thrills and spills.

@Natasha

Are you making this claim from gaming perspective or a DC fan perspective? And is your conclusiion from a MMO experience or a console experience?

Thank you. That's important distinction. From a friend who is big DC fan, extensive MMO player with some console experience...is having remarkabley different and positive conclusion than you. Not to say you're wrong and the friend is right. It seems players' conclusion are perhaps subjective to their backgrounds. That is, they'll really hate this game or really love it.

Technical issues aside, my big concern is that I think DCUO may have too narrrowly defined their target audience to make it big or even successful. :(

@Utakata How long has your friend been in the beta?

I ask, because I was hyped on this title for the first 3 or 4 weeks, at which point I had multiple characters sitting at the cap, was realizing that levelling additional characters, no matter what combinations I chose, felt pretty much the same, and noticing that there was really nothing engaging to do once you'd levelled up.

@esarphie That pretty much sums up my experience as well. My first impression was disappointment over the lack of power choices and customization.

Once I got over that disappointment, I actually started really loving the game because it was so different. Sure it's a stinker as a multiplayer game because nobody communicates teamwork, but it was a lot of fun for a solo game. Then about 3-4 weeks in, the game just got really stale. When you first get to 30, things are a lot of fun, but after grinding out the same "raids" over and over and over it just steals away your will to login. What's worse is because of the extremely limited power selections, doing an alt isn't as much fun as it was in other Hero games. I had 2 level 30's (1 hero, 1 villain) and another 22 hero before I couldn't bare to login anymore.

It's a shame because the game has a lot of potential, but they're going to blow their launch because they assume people will stick around 6 months waiting for it to get better. As Vanguard, Conan, Warhammer, CO, and STO all proved, people won't stay subbed waiting for it to get better. If DCUO launches in 3 weeks, I'm sure they'll have a pretty successful launch, but I'm also pretty certain they'll have a mass exodus before the 30 free days are up.

"Another one botched the launch".

...about 3 or 4 weeks?

I'll be visiting this friend for the Holidays. So I'll be asking more pointed questions about this title. But as far as I am aware....this friend is still postive about it. And I'll vouch for this person's credibility.

I come to these threads to read honest feedback, and truly I want the games to succeed, even if I do not play them.

After taking a chance on WAR right when the box went on sale, though, I will never again join an MMO unless it is 6 months old minimum and has an established player base with decent content.

Yeah, you miss the thrill of being a real pioneer, but it is hardly worth the headache of spending money to let developers finish their job.

AAA titles are suffering from too high expectations. I am starting to respect more the smaller developers who may put our equally buggy products but by offering something different or new, they at least get my respect for trying harder.

I just want to ask, if anyone knows this, but is it possible to have one account and play on the PS3 and the PC? I mean I will buy games for both versions but I would rather just pay $15/month and have access to both

As much fun as this could be, it simply does not have that certain "thing" to make it great. There is a noticeable lack of polish and immersion in many of systems currently in place.

The menu system is not done well- having maps and pretty much any other menu based system take up your entire screen is okay on single player games where the action around you can be paused, but it is NOT okay in a persistent always going online game.

Voice acting, while good for half of the characters, is really bad for the other half. This crushes the illusion of quality in the sound department. Same for the music.

The worst issue so far are animations and animation blending. Animations are simply not good on many NPCs and and player characters, with characters being stuck in mid air or making jerky motions in combat. Add to that some distracting special effects that obscure any remaining good combat animations and it just all makes for an unpolished mess of what could have been some cool, eye candy combat.

I'll say this, though- the atmosphere in Metropolis and Gotham are great. It really felt like I was a batman-like superhero, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, seeking out those crazy villains wreaking havoc around town.

I hope they take more time to make it what a great DC comic MMO should be. All those cool comic book legends deserve it, not to mention the fans and potential customers. Please see Square-Enix for what NOT to do with a beloved franchise/IP. Please.

@Sunlover

Maybe if it had 2 or 3 more months it would be perfect. And i still think at most 2-3 months after launch it will be a very good product. They seem able to add motion comic content fairly rapidly, missions seem slower, i really think the first quarterly content upgrade is gonna be pretty awesome. Might want to wait it out.

Personally im gonna go full pioneer on this one. I'll be there on or around launch. Wish me luck. :)

Im am so pumped about this game, its not even funny. This will be my 3rd Undertaking of an MMO at launch. WoW being the first, WAR being the second. And 5th Total, NONE of which interest me anymore.

WoW
WAR (Impulse buy, wanted to replace WoW. Regret it highly)
EQ2 (Impulse buy, regret it highly also)
Auto Assault
Guild Wars

Being a huge Comic Book fan (with a massive collection passed down to me from my Father), this title actually has things that interest me on almost every level: Great atmosphere, NON-boring Combat, MMO, COMIC BOOK CHARACTERS.

I still miss Auto Assault though....

really they are launching this game? I hope they have a few builds past beta in the cooker - definately seems unfinished in many areas and there is very little end game unless you like to just PVP. For $15/month I would expect more - I bet hard core players will run out of content by the third week.

i played the game for about a month to see if it was any good i can tell you that this game should be only free to play no way should they be asking for a subscription the graphics seem like like 4 year old tech i mean even if it was a console game the graphics should look way better than this seems like ps2 gfx

serious question, it might just be the cross platform deal affecting things but as a PC user who can buy things digitally (like the lifetime would be, which is limited to PC), why would I pay a good (approx) $60 US more because I'm in Australia (Pal territory) for the life time sub?

Kind of doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Wouldn't I be able to just buy it online from the US at US prices like pretty much everything else?
