The video makes the game seem so much more exciting than how it actually plays. Still love the game though.

I am rather disappointed with this trailer, I think in the alloted time they could have done better.

Too much combat and not enough world and "The Pretty".

Well.... at least they have the idea of "do whatever you want" that draws me to eve in there.... but it does seem to make it alot more fast paced then it is in reality

I'm curious, are those people who say EVE is slow and boring also playing the game currently? Have they played it for a long time, or just once and then left? I'm not picking a fight here. I'm interested to know if there is a loyal player base that still considers the game to be slow and boring, but still plays actively (maybe in hopes that it will ramp up at some point with the release of Incursion or Dust 514).

I'm bringing this up because not only am I interested personally to know, but because the common assessment of this video seems to be that it doesn't portray the game-play or aesthetics of the universe accurately.

@Sean D
Anyone who has played EVE knows the cinematics and game play are very different.
As for the player base, i don't think so.

@Sean D

Do not take this comment as my endorsement, though i do toss in some bad aspects too.

EVE is as slow and boring as you make it, right now nothing in the space genre can match it for anything, visuals, gameplay (when their are less than 10 people on screen) and doing whatever you want to do, regardless of the game mechanics. The part in parentheses is blown a bit out of reality by me, though during big battles the wait times and lag are unacceptable.

EVE has no learing curve, you can jump right in and in minutes be zipping around, what EVE lacks is decriptors for its skills and how they interact with the game world or other ships/player. Most would call this the "steep" learning curve you read so much about, i simply call it trial and error for lack of proper documentation (CCP to date still has not made a manual, they rely on the community to piece information together and then take credit). The one downloadable manual was created by the fans of the game, not the devs.

EVE flight and combat is on the rails and unrealistic, even for a game, but the small number of subs EVE has seems to like it as it fits the carebear style of pvp in EVE.

EVE has a very small commuity, a good portion of them are rabid malcontents for want of a better term, and not in the "i love this game" way. There is a very tiny group of folks fighting the good fight in EVE, but they are small compared to the overall aspect of EVE. They try in vain to get new folks to stay with EVE but are fighting an uphill battle.

EVE is the ONLY game to date that has multiple instances of dev corruption. EVE also has a "special mechanic" that is claimed by some in the EVE community as "OK". This is called real life fraud.

So in closing, EVE can be as fast and furious as you want or as boring as you want, you need to be aware of the small community, and the corrupt developers. Be mindful of people wanting to be your friends, even to the point they get to know you in real life and then turn around and steal your entire account of resources and money, laughing and posting about it, CCP feels this is fine. If you like this then EVE is for you.

EVE is a kitty litter sanbox MMO that hasnt been cleaned in a very long while, it smells horrible and is full of the things you do not want to be around.

*grin* Merry Christmas, and happy holidays.

@Graill440

wow
okay not biased at all? check.
large ego? check.
no idea what the playerbase actually is or does? check.

you seriously hit every wrong turn you could have. you touched on not only all of the "worst" aspects of the game, but to say, "hey dont listen to me because everything I say isnt actually my own opinion" isnt professional.

EvE is exactly what you want it to be. it fits EVERY play style. It fits EVERYONE. It allows players to not only work together in tandem, but provides a tactical element to an MMO that is unlike any other in the business.

Once you get hooked, EvE is not something you can easily put down sometimes. It is not because of the leet graphics or super rad spaceships; it it the always popular playerbase that makes it a hit and such an amazing MMO. The players you participate with make you want to play the game. The ships and mods are an afterthought when you find the right group of friends/people you want to play with. Find them and you will be hooked for life.

"EVE has a very small commuity, a good portion of them are rabid malcontents for want of a better term"
SMALL COMMUNITY, wow great research there again. On a daily basis, the EvE Universe has roughly 45,000-65,000 ACTIVE players. All on one server. No BS switching from one server to another. There are more than 300,000 active accounts that do not play daily but are being paid for and used. As for rabid malcontents, yea nice use of synonyms. I think you have already proved you not only failed at EvE, but emo-rage-quit when the going got too tough. We dont want you anyways.

As for the learning curve. We pride ourselves in the fact that the learning curve is where it is. We dont want everyone to participate if they cant grasp everything. It is the same as a coach of a sports team, he doesnt want players who wont actively and positively benefit the team. As such we dont want players who wont take the game for what it is and participate in a meaningful way.

Lag is lag. IMO, there is never a day that I dont wish we had lag, but CCP is fixing it. Tell all the WoW and other "big time" developers that they arent on CCP's par yet with the whole single server thing and that they might want to step up their game. ;)

end of line...

There are players in Eve who sit in stations and amass great wealth, never firing a shot. Market pvp they call it.

Others see huge fleets battles and action to get the blood pumping.

What MMO on the market currently does NOT allow you to bore yourself or experience challenge? You grind if you want . . .you go places that you are going to die, again, if you want to.

Would you prefer that the add had Mr T. proclaiming his Amarr Mohawk class cruiser?

CCP has some great PR and Marketing.

I've just always struggled to enjoy the game. On paper, it has everything I like to see: sandbox options galore, lots of pretty visuals, tons of non-combat options, etc.

However, in practice, I always find myself underwhelmed whenever I return to EVE (around once a year). Trailers like this don't help that don't really convey how you interact with the game (yes, I know walking in stations will be added but many a theater goer is going to be saying "WTF?" should they they take up CCP's offer in its current incarnation).
