That's strange, I placed a pre-order last week and the site said January 11th.

play.com also states the new PS3 release date to be 14th January 2010 - nothing about PC date but surely must be the same. We all know these retailers put dates based on nothing but guesswork until it is confirmed (as SWTOR is due to released in March if they are to be believed!!) but you never know, SOE said a release date is in the "very near future" so cant be that far off.

@The Protagonist Actually, the people working on SWTOR SPECIFICALLY said the game will not be released before April 2011. It could very well be released in April, but not before.

@Baromega. That was exaactly my point. Dates on retail websites cannot be believed, proven by the fact that SWTOR on play.com is stating a release date which is prior to when the developer said would be the minimum. Try reading a comment carefully before replying.

Wow. I'm in the beta for this game, and I can't believe that they are going to release it in less than a month. I assumed it was months away.

@TheSinisterOne

I have to agree as a Beta tester myself. I really like a lot about the beta, but its still very much a beta product with lots of beta features or unimplemented ones.

On top of that their last beta patch was actually a step back in many areas. New bugs introduced into previously working systems, balance issues, content issues... its just not ready. They could maybe, just maybe, release a patch that fixed 75% of the bugs in that time.

But theyd need to abandon finishing any of the unimplemented features, if they were to try and meet the date that Amazon has for them. These are basic features im talking about, like a useful chat system.

Like i said, i really enjoy the beta, but if they try to push that beta out as a retail product, i just dont envision DCUO being a success. I'm really hoping amazon is just wrong about that date. Having it ship towards the end of March, that would give the devs the time thats needed to finish the product. And give them the best shot at success, which is all i really want for the title.

@TheSinisterOne isnt this what people were mad at CO about releasing the game to early full of bugs and glitches?I also would like to add to your list that the chat interface system has got to be the worst I have seen in just about anygame f2p or p2p that I have played. And to make matters worse after you do succeed at making a customized channel the next time I log on it is gone and to even get chat with more than 1 channel white in color I have to hit reset to default so I just quit trying.
There is no way this game is ready to release in January and if it does I feel bad for those that have already pre-ordered because that means you are going to be paying them to continue beta testing the game with that free 30 days that comes with the game.

@alucard3000 The chat is horrible. Right up there with the mess of Lego Universe chat (although that one got a bit better)

Hmmm... I have been playing in the PS3 beta and I hope this information is incorrect. They cold stand a few more months cleaning up issues and tweaking the game play.

Ouch, there's no way this game will be ready in that time if this news is true. I would really be surprised if it passes the PS3's quality control, they're normally pretty steep with games launching on their platform if they're not up to a certain quality standard.

The beta is surprisingly fun, but unsurprisingly unready.

Now if they can just whip up enough content to fill up 5 months of the average gamer's playtime, then they'll have almost 6 months of play to launch with and will have enough time to scramble for post-launch expansions.
