I think its a safe bet that Blizzard realizes that even they can't make something that will be a true "Wow-Killer". World of Warcraft, while fundamentally a good and interesting game, owes alot of its success of being the right game in the right place at the right time.

A MMO based on Titan AE. Who thought it was that popular.

I wonder if it can actually work? It seems most things that blizzard tries to do outside of warcraft/starcraft/diablo fizzle.

1995, everything since 1995 has been warcraft, starcraft or diablo related...which is before two of those franchises even started.

I'm still thinking its probably the long denied, yeah suspiciously possible StarCraft MMO, like you said.. they pretty much do three things. Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft.

Blizzard isn't really known for creating new IPs, more for reusing, changing and fundamentally imrpoving their existing titles.

Even if they aren't really known for creating new IPs, it has already been stated by Blizzard themselves that it will be based on a completely new IP. So, no, not a Starcraft MMO.

Blizzard have previously stated that the MMO is a new IP, so it rules out Starcraft.

And how many times did LucasArts and BioWare flat out deny they were working on a Star Wars MMO?

Just because they state something doesn't make it absolute fact. In the meantime, I have a bridge I'm selling if you are interested? :P

While true of those companies....you can't really judge Blizzard on the lies of other companies. If Blizzard on the other hand have a habit of lying though all bets are off.

Um, sorry? LucasArts & BioWare have to do with Blizzard how? And how exactly would Blizzard benefit from lying? What reason would they have? I'm sorry that you somehow came to the assumption that I'm gullible just because I believe what Blizzard says about their own project, when I really have no reason not to.

Its not lying, its just the way the industry works. The same way that Blizzard denied they were working on Starcraft 2 until they were ready to state they were working on SC2. This is nothing exclusive to any one company, it just happens. And until they specifilly state the nature of their product, buying into a denial is pointless since chances are 50/50 that they are working on that exact thing.

Sides, coming at it from a different angle, following the release of very successful SP games an MMO in that vein may very will win over sales because its a brandname still fresh in peoples memories.

@Jaimie The only thing I trust Blizzard to do is anything that they think will make them money. Other than that I don't think it's smart to trust any company very far, their goal is to make money and that's that. If they think denying that it is a Starcraft MMO and then making it that will make them $ then they will. However, I imagine that it will probably be a new IP with a lot of similarities to WoW and/or other Blizzard products. Kind of the same way that WoW's talents were pretty much the same thing as the skill points system in Diablo 2.

I have an idea. Wait 'till it's announced what it is before concluding what it's supposed to be or not.
