The global distribution picture for Trion Worlds' RIFT MMORPG just got a bit clearer thanks to an announcement made by the developer earlier today. Trion signed a multi-year retail deal with QVS, a renowned publisher in both Australia and New Zealand.
Thanks to the new agreement, Kiwis and Aussies alike will be saying g'day to RIFT's dynamic content, familiar class-based gameplay, and lush graphics along with the rest of the world when the title launches in early 2011. "We are excited to join forces with QVS to bring RIFT to gamers throughout Australia and New Zealand. Working with QVS allows us to expand our commitment to deliver quality games to gamers worldwide," says Trion's David Reid.

Speaking as a Britfag: I went to Asutralia for a month. Not a single g'day came my way at all. Should I have been released or disappointed?

@Dril Proud but whimsically nostalgic, like a parent whose child has finally stopped lisping. (Seriously though, could've just been bad luck. Lot of us still saying it around, but mostly to mates since it's a fairly informal greeting.)

@Transientmind I still use the stereotypical "mate" a lot, if that counts for anything. I also swear a lot? Though so can British people. Hrm.

Oooh, we get to find out who's going to sell us access to playing a game on foreign servers?
*yawn*
Wake us when there's REAL news, like opening actual servers here, instead of just knowing who's getting the rights to collect a fat retail mark-up. Aussies play loads of games that don't get released here. When it comes to MMOs, distributors are about as useful as lube. They might make life easier, but if you know what you're doing, or if you're determined or enthusiastic enough, you really don't need them.

Just so you know, QVS are not really "a renowned publisher". I've never heard of them, and looking at their website, their main business seems to be shovelling out crappy little budget games. This is not really a partnership that is going to raise RIFT's profile.
