In its 15-month outing in the MMO arena, Champions Online has generated its fair number of stories, both good and bad. Cryptic Studios has given Massively an exclusive video look at CO's past six content updates, narrated by producer Rob Overmeyer.
In the video, we get a look at the many trials heroes in Millennium City have had to endure, from the recurring Blood Moon events to the most recent Demonflame adventure pack. Although a number of the updates are seasonal, they have included expansions to the base game, including the Zombie Apocalypse PvP mode and the Celestial powerset. All of the updates depicted are also detailed in the game's updates page.
As the game gets closer and closer to the F2P launch, it's important to look back and see how much the game has changed and evolved. Hit the jump to check it out!

Just wish CO had the combat of DCUO, then I'd still be playing it :(

Sub: Disregard Comments Full of Hot Air. Discover ur self its F2P after all!
Don't worry about those types of negative comments as it has NO effect to potential new player like me. The barrier to entry has been taken away because of the F2p model and I can rather try the game myself form my own thoughts o the game myself.

15 months and they've released a mini-zone and 2 adventure packs as well as some unfun, crappy seasonal events? I wish I hadn't spent 200 bucks on this game. I feel bad for the handful of developers who have to get up every morning and go work on that turd to crank out its complete dearth of content.

Not any studio that counts. For example, Turbine, old Cryptic under NCSoft, Blizzard, any other Cryptic title, Funcom, Squaresoft, Icarus, Sony
I might have missed one, but the rest of the studios are too poor (on many levels) to count. If you wanna compete with the big boys and charge like the big boys, you better be ready to deliver like the big boys. They haven't. Champions is the redheaded stepchild of their studio. You think they're really letting anyone with talent still work on that piece of crap?

I registered to point out you missed A LOT of work that was put into this game within 15 months; talk to the people who were in Closed Beta, and see how far this game has come.
2 Adventure Packs, a (mini? no, more like LARGE) zone with huge amount of content, missions, 3 open missions, mazes and lots of "gathering areas" is just the start of it..
A re-look at ALL melee powersets, making them function completely different then they were 15 months ago. A re-look at ALL pet powers, making them worth taking and fun to play with.
A NEW powerset; Celestial - potentially bringing the game on-par with people who wanted a healing group.
NEW and more improved "build" sets, including Brawler and Sentinal.
A re-work of the tutorial zone (which included new text and descriptions).
A new PVP mode: Zombie Apocolypse.
..Should I continue??
Re-work on the power structures to make passive defenses and offenses more on-par; including Defiant mitigations.
A whole lot of new costume pieces (and yes, this is important because a HUGE amount of the community wanted more costumes!)
A whole lot of new pet models available since the pet-pass.
New ways to play in-door missions; Elite Mode with more drops, better drops, and more challenging aspects to TEAM, which also leads me to....
... Scaling Missions based on Team members.
Re-work to the Supergroup menu and information finding.
A huge amount of costume and emblem pieces in the C-Store.
The list, obviously, goes a lot longer then this... So before you complain that CO hasn't changed in 15 years, play the game for longer then 10 minutes to understand what has been changed.

I was in closed beta. I also bought a lifetime on purpose. My finger didn't slip. But 5 months after launch with not a peep about what they were working on aside from the lame-o events and the whole vibora bay controversy that got Daeke fired. I was there. I was there when they announced the change to adventure packs, which oh by the way, there have only been 2. They aren't much longer than the weekly episodes that Star Trek Online pumped out nearly a dozen of in a fraction of the time.
Also, there have been two guys, two, who have been working on the powerset adjustments. Stuff that shouldn't have taken 15 months to fix. There are still entire swaths of powers that don't work or don't work right. Ice, anybody?
So don't come at me like I haven't been there since the beginning watching this (not quite) Titanic sink oh so slowly into it's own busted (for almost a month without a gold post) Lemuria.

Have they made it so that healers get any benefit in PvP yet? I was so frustrated healing my butt off entire PvP matches and ending them with zero reward. The only way to gain anything was to rack up killing blows which means healers were neglected in every sense of the word. They lost my subscription after about 48 hours of pointless PvP. Beyond that I did feel the game was really beautiful. The character creator is also second to none. I could probably just create character after character and never even play the game and have quite a bit of fun.
P.S. No offense but the producer here needs to practice a bit more if he wants to sound unscripted. His "excitement" towards the future of Champions Online can only be described as contrived, monotone & somewhat desperate.
This line in particular came off really synthetic:
"One thing is for sure, it's going to be a lot of fun! So see you in-game"

Cant wait for f2p release. Totally excited to try this game. Back in days i used to collect comics and always wanted to get into the super hero genre like city of heroes, but never pulled the trigger to subscribe.
Hope f2p accounts are not feature limited and could allow me to experience those lvl 35-40s missions he talked about in the video.

One of the reasons I didn't stick with CO is it really drags on my computer. Very poor performance. In contrast, DCUO runs very well (and looks better). I guess that's what a solid engine can do for a game.

agreed, something with cryptics engine in both CO and STO isn't handling resources as well as it should. Also agree with the poor graphics, everything looks so plastic and shiney, the characters in STO have reflective skin when the graphics are up, it's ridic

Sure, naming off the basic features of each content update makes them sound small, but there really was a huge amount of QoL updates going on at the same time. The melee pass, pet pass, supernatural pass, tons of bug fixes, and the Anniversary event all went on during this time as well. As someone who's been there from the start (and never really understood the rabid hatred the game attracts), I want to say that if you quit a long time ago, definitely come check the game out again when it goes F2P. Especially if your biggest issue was the infamous launch day patch.
Also, the F2P beta currently contains tons of fixes and changes that players have been asking for for a long time. Just saying.

I have a special place in my heart for this game. It is everything I wanted it to be when it came out, but my computer can only play on the lowest settings and when you play it in those conditions, a lot is lost. The art style is my favorite of all the super hero mmos, but after playing DCUO beta on the PS3, it'll be hard coming back to this game because the game play is so much fun. I will come back to champions eventually, when I get myself a better computer, but DCUO has the best gameplay for the super hero genre.

Yeah, I just wish it had more content, a better world, actual different storylines, a better costume system, more choices when it comes to bodies ( or sliders) and something to actually do at endgame instead of just collecting feat points to buy more powers I'll never end up using.
I don't know, honestly, if I will be buying DCUO... I was seriously looking forward to playing the game, and then I got into the beta....
SOE seriously dropped the ball on alot of things, but hey... gameplay is very action game like. Lets just hope the next few patches can fix some of the glaring omisions.

@DiscordSK You just hit all the points. A better world is my biggest. Super Heroes need cities, the other stuff is great, but the main focus should be a major city that spans a huge distance. MC is cool but not big enough and it looks and feels a tad dull. CoX had Paragon City perfect, but I prefer game play of CO more.
DCUO did the story line just right, and I am really enjoying that game. Customization leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not too bad.

The trouble with DCUO is that you're going to see huge launch numbers, but then a massive exodus of players after the free month. The game is pretty much content-locked at this point, and players can see all there is to see is about 3-4 weeks of play. It's a fun enough game, but many people will be hard pressed to pay monthly for it.
