Whatever happened to The Agency? Inquiring minds want to know, and since Sony Online Entertainment's internal memos haven't been given the WikiLeaks treatment, we'll have to take company president John Smedley at his word. "There was a moment in time in our company where we looked at our own stuff with a clear eye and saw we have to do better," Smedley told Kotaku in a recent interview. Translation: it ain't ready 'til it's ready.
While the spy MMO's launch would seem to be quite a ways off, fans should be glad to hear that it hasn't been shelved entirely. We haven't seen hide nor hair of the title since E3 2010, but hopefully the extra time will serve to boost the game's stock in the same vein as SOE's other upcoming MMO. DC Universe, originally scheduled to launch last November, has apparently benefited from the extra test cycles if the scuttlebutt surrounding yesterday's NDA-drop is to be believed.

Well, I HAVE been curious as to WHERE this was hiding. Good to know it didn't slip off quietly into the night and disappear forever.
Hope it makes it online next year.

A delay of 1 year at the last moment? :P
This game has been stated for Dec release few months new.
I can imagine the discussion at the office:
Guy1: So..should we release this month?...
Guy2: Hmmmm.....Doesn't look ready..let's take another year.

I cant help but wonder if anyone even cares at this point.
Now look at what it's gonna go up against in 2011, it's not looking very bright for The Agency.

not really a surprise given the silence on the game for a while now, 2011 is going to be a tight year with TOR, Tera, and Rift showing up.

@Arkanaloth the 3 games you mention are a totally different genre with the only resemblence Tor having is guns but not really functioning the same as guns in a shooter based game,so I highly doubt those would have any impact on the population of this game.People interested in shooters are still going to be interested in shooters regardless of how many good non-shooter fantasy based games release. Now Firefall and Hi-Rez's Tribes those will for sure.

genre discussions aside, most people don't have a lot of money to throw into the MMO obsession. Sure you have some people with 7 WoW accounts, but I suspect more people play only one or two games. At this point, the Agency hasn't presented enough significant information to show itself to be any different than any other MMO. So it uses guns instead of swords meh it's all polygons at the end of the day, therefore it still has to compete with games within as well as outside of it's genre for a slice of the somewhat limited pay-per-month pie.
as the glut of game releases grows next year the Agency will have the task of proving it self as being more worthy. Sure you have "shooter" people vs "fantasy" people, but lots of people overlap.

Probably being redesigned as a F2P or B2P title.

2011 has a lot of games that are going to be exactly the same.
This offers a new type of setting for people to play in. Either way, people should be happy SOE has finally started to listen to what people want and are going to try and release a completely finished game.

This game is going to bomb so bad. Hopefully it will be the end of Smedley's reign of terror at SOE.
@Mykell - I have no doubt that you are right. The game is being redesigned as a F2P with an item mall and probably some lame card game tie-in like they do with SWG.

I remember fondly SOE hyping The Agency as nearly ready for release in 2009 (or was it 2008?).
