After a bit of time with the beta I think it's pretty cool, but I think the combo system would be better served by a console controller than a mouse, time will tell however.

@Arkanaloth
I debated on dropping in my impressions of console controller versus keyboard. The gameplay style is different with a gpad. I use a PS3 controller on PC for certain games. I tried it out on DCUO, and you are absolutely right about the combos. The gpad is a lot more responsive for combo moves, but (with the default settings) the power sets are hard to navigate. On top of that, the camera was difficult to control as well. I know this is partially because I don't play a lot of console games, but at the same time, the game seems better suited over all for the keyboard.

Has the PS3 Beta come out yet? I'm still waiting on my beta code, and frankly don't even know if I'm going to keep my pre-order because I'm starting to lose a tad bit of interest.

@madbassman39

Not out yet and no definite word when it will come out.

It could come out next week or a few months from now, all the Devs say in response to this question is, "Soon."

@Space Cobra Thats good I guess. I just am quickly moving on to other things and am considering cancelling my pre-order. If I get into the beta, then maybe it'll be good enough for me to keep my preorder.

I've been in beta, too and while the game is fun, it is a bit short on substance and content.

Some other Beta people are going to wait until more is added, but this may not make a good first impression. Also, given the "depth" of this game, I am thinking the sub may be a bit too high to sustain play for too many months. More character slots could add to it (I could fill up on the PvE and PvP servers), but that's just my opinion. I think what we are getting, atm, $9.99 or lower may've been the better fee.

@Space Cobra I'm hoping it gets tacked on to the station access subscription option without raising its cost. That would make it more worthwhile, for me at least.

Most importantly to me the game is actually fun. Its not perfect and i'm not sure how much longevity it has but i can see it being a blast to play for a couple months on the pvp server.

Having played CoX and CO for awhile each i found CoX too dull and CO to convoluted in many areas.
I'm glad to see SOE take a new approach to hero MMOs. I can say that i feel this game is going to stomp on CoX and CO's player base when it goes live.
I do have reservations regarding the powersets and travel powers as there is a fair bit of overlap and each powerset functionally gives you the same tools at the same level. each weapon style gives you a "leap" attack as your first 'combo' at lvl 2 and one of your first 2 travel power choices are an identical attack gained at lvl 9. i see it as a bit limiting and as i said the overlap is noticeable. it makes choosing a unique build more difficult as the powers are set in fairly linear trees.

Aside from that caveat IMO, i can definately see myself playing this game for awhile. As it brings back something a LOT of MMOs lack lately FUN.

@Skyydragonn HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA- Goes on for 500 more pages.

First of all CoX is not very dull its just not the best on content when you play a lot but its a lot better than CO.

And I bet you DC universe will not crush any of them (maybe CO) but I dont know. Thats a little BS of what you said thats all.

Personally I have enjoyed the nature of combat in DCUO more then any other MMO as of late. Last night I actually enjoyed grinding Stingers in Metropolis after resetting my powers just to get a feel for the new build.

I am loving the graphics, they look spectacular on my system which is in no way a top of the line machine anymore and that really made me enjoy exploration collections much more then in other games.

I do agree with the concerns of others about powers and builds. I have found myself sometimes letting power points sit as I hardly use any powers beyond the second or third tier of the tree. Supercharged abilities can take forever to recharge and I have not felt their effect made the effort worth it. Many powers are missing from the current version of beta and hopefully that will be addressed in further versions. I will say that having only the ability to have six active powers on your bar at a time does provide for diversity, or at least much more then titles that allow 20 abilities on 4 hotbars on screen at one time.

As for the actual content of the game, I have no real issues thus far. I love the voice acting that I have already encountered, adds to the immersion of the game. On top of that the short comic like videos that play after clearing a dungeon were a nice surprise.

I have not run any raids yet, and have only done one alert which kicked my groups butt. After trying to defeat the final boss on a brainiac alert 5 times we gave up. I even switched my loadout to all healing and buff powers from the nature set to try and heal the team and we still got creamed.

So as is obvious, I am enjoying it. Very glad they did not release however. Even though I like it alot, I would not pay a monthly sub for it in its current build, clearly another 4 or 5 months could do great things for it.

I must say that being beta was fun.
I'm glad that SOE made the decision to delay the game.
In terms of the amount of content I'm sure that they will be plenty
once they are completely finish with it.
I'm also hoping that DCUO will have a plethora costumes and powers
to choose from.
I pre-ordered my copy.

One thing I have to say about being in the beta is the screenshots don't do the game justice AT ALL. The graphics are gorgeous.

I've been in the beta since October. I definitely recommend this game for a buy, but right now there isn't enough content to justify a subscription. I intend to sub here and there when the mood strikes.

I've just logged out of DCUO, having stayed up two hours later than I meant to because I was enjoying myself so much.

It's definitely not perfect. It's just as well they pushed launch back, because there are still a fair amount of bugs, although nothing I've come across that stops it being enormous fun. I also agree with comments above that the power sets are a bit lacklustre in places.

Overall, though, it is much, much better than I was exxpecting. Visually it is stunning. The size and detail of Metropolis and Gotham are breathtaking, and most importantly it really feels superheroic. As a lifelong D.C. fan I was always going to try it out, but I never expected to enjoy it this much.

"I would think that Batman would choose martial arts, but I was not personally fond of the look of that weapon. The character carried two bladed-knuckle-type weapons. So I stepped totally outside the box and picked dual pistols."

Just wanted to mention, that there is an option in the Style Tab when you get into the game to change the katars (that are the default martial art weapon) to just bare fists.
