@Kightlinger AoC has been a PVE centered game for well over a year now. And that article you linked to is fairly whiny, almost felt like I was reading one of the rants of the mmorpg.com crowd.

@Vagrant Zero

Please forgive me for expressing my views. I have been an avid AoC player since open beta, for all but two weeks. My account is prepaid for well into 2012.

Over the years, I have been one of AoC's biggest supporters despite it's downfalls. My views expressed were those of an individual who has witnessed every single event since day one, participating in one of the premiere raiding guilds on the U.S. servers.

It is clear that view of the minority often appears the largest, forcing unreasonable changes. It's well passed time that our faithful subscribers speak up and express our own personal feelings.

I take absolute pride in my article.

The article is far from whiny and the wording used seems appropriate, so ignore the trolls.

Maybe Jef can learn a lesson or two. One can only hope.

@Kightlinger This isn't even productive whining: the link says that the PvP being removed is in white sands and tortage. Newbie areas. Virtually every single PvP game tries to have a safe spot for new players to learn the ropes. If they don't, they soon find they barely have new players left.

From your tone I thought they were closing PvP servers or something.

@Kinau

You can not expect a MMO gaming site to support the gamers when it comes to these things... After all its the adds that pay the bill.... SPECIALLY for games like AOC that spend more money on adds than on actually adding to the game.

AOC is loosing alot of players atm and new WOW expansion wont help. But... the main reason why AOC is loosing support is that the game does not have the financial or developmental ability to make long terms plan. AOC is olny thinking few months ahead atm and its more based on what others are doing. WAR is doing the same with their latest "pack" launch. SO... basicly we are seeing those games do what they did from start... cheat ppl into buying or subbing - in times when WOW is quet. It has NEVER been about the acutal quality of WAR or AOC. Cause there is none... its just leeching.

@Deadalon

On the contrary, I support AoC players, aside from the same 20 PvP whiners that clutter every one of Morrison's posts with "bring back 1.04, I'm quitting and so are all my friends, blah, blah."

Honestly, quit already. This is the third or fourth development update that's brought out the PvP-focused QQ, and these folks said they were quitting three updates ago.

Tbh, I just find it ironic that these are the people who tell PvEers not to cry when they don't get their way, it's just a game, move on and adapt, yet here they are doing exactly the opposite, lol.

Not only that, but aside from UH/WS, Funcom isn't limiting anyone's ability to PvP. Roll on Cimmeria or Tyranny and fight 24/7 from level 20 to level 80 if that's your thing. In the meantime, Funcom is making a smart business move by continuing to add PvE content, because that is what sells MMORPGs.

It's really not that difficult to understand.

Incidentally, this post isn't aimed specifically at you Deadalon, but people in general.

@Jef Reahard

I'm one of those whiners I guess. I find it funny how often in posts about Conan on massively the PvP players are called whiners. Seriously it is very consistent, heh.

As for "quit already" well, most already have, or currently are. If you played on a pvp server you would know this(I don't know where you actually play but I get the impression it is sub-80 on Wiccana, no?).

These servers' population is suffering, the Tyranny migration to Cimmeria happened for a reason. Virtually every major pvp guild has dissolved(in Europe to I think). Have you never asked why these types of things are occuring? I would think that this type of thing would be of interest to someone who is looking for story fodder when writing about a virtual world.

Also part of the reason for what you are seeing is the way the expansion was sold. It was described at 100% pve, which it was. However, at the time the pvp playerbase was told that to make up for this directly after the expansion was released there would be a greatly increased focus on pvp content. This was a limited time offer(and to be honest not a bad deal), so many people bought it. The change in focus did not occur at all though, so you are seeing the tail end of those (unhappy) long term pvp subscriptions running out. I think you will be much happier reading the forums after the next few months.

(just barely registered so hope this is not a double post)

@Mhaer

If it matters, I've got an 80 on Cimmeria, and I actually leveled him 1-70 on Tyranny at launch before transferring him.

I spend most of my days on my Wiccana 80s though, as PvP has always been an afterthought to me, even moreso for the last year in AoC when it has quite obviously turned into a themepark grinder.

As far as labeling the PvPers whiners, I just call it like I see it. Seriously, read that thread, and any other development post with comments. No matter the subject, there are the usual PvP-focused posters decrying everything that Funcom is doing and providing no constructive suggestions other than "1.04 or I quit!!!11!!"

I dunno. I sympathize with them a little bit for having their game taken away from them, it happened to me with SWG, but such is life, you know? Try Darkfall, or EVE, or other games clearly made for PvP, and leave the folks that enjoy AoC's PvE (clearly the majority else Funcom wouldn't be doing this) in peace.

@Jef Reahard What I don't like about the QQ is that it takes all the blame off of PvP in general and its players, as well as the game's combat system. Maybe PvP just sucks for the majority of players, and it can't be fixed by throwing dev resources at it.

They say go to PvE servers. Well a lot of people do, and the devs see that, and focus resources on PvE because only a small percentage actually remain PvPing.

I know it shouldn't matter, but I was curious. If you play on Cimmeria though, how can you say "quiting-but-not-really" though? I think the population on the pvp server is actually significantly less, it is not just empty threats or an illusions.

You are right they are (including me) whining, I just found it funny it was mentioned in EVERY column on Massively. However, saying they don't give constructive feedback isn't really correct in my opinion. Maybe not in that thread, but I think for virtually every of your 20 whiners I can find large numbers of posts or even entire threads with feedback that has been ignored. Just look at the PvP feedback thread in the PvP section of the forums that is almost a joke now since it was started by funcom then ignored for months.

Personally I am trying out EvE, and considering Darkfall, but that just shows why the complainers are hanging around as long as they are. As far as the combat system and setting goes, AoC doesn't have a competitor that I can see right now.

What appealed to me was it had fun casual open world PvP. Now the casual part has been removed with the gear/AA grind and it is apparently "too hard" to develop open world pvp content. I'm hoping (and looking) for something else, but I will offer suggestions until I don't have access to the forums any more.

Well I meant the guys that say they are quitting but hang out to bitch on the boards for three months. I don't play on Cimmeria much at all anymore, so I'll take your word for that.

Darkfall is far superior to AoC for PvP, imo. The graphics/animations aren't in the same league of course, and there's less directional button mashing to fire off combos, but the game world and ruleset is just more conducive to the things that PvPers say they want, so I'm not sure why they continue to hang around AoC unless they're Howard fans.

@Jef Reahard

I was thinking of trying Darkfall over the holidays, but the main difference ( and the reason you still occasionally see the 1.04 comments) is the "casual" part of the pvp in conan. You could be at 80 and fighting and winning in less then a month in 1.04. The 1.05 gear change hurt this significantly, but the expansion killed it.

I fear I am pretty far behind in games like EvE or Darkfall (and not as big a fan of the setting, tried MO too but it was pretty bad at the time), and they are anything but casual from what I hear

Hell ya! New content! And new PvP ! The producer prefers open world PVP? Sweet! And he explains the development side of content vs system changes- that one flew over most of their wittle grunt brains... poor little "I want it now" generation.

I read the "no more PvP in WS or UH" thread (or whatever the exact name was), and it is EXACTLY a bunch of QQing, but TBH it is entirely justified...

I generally don't play PvP servers because of the element it attracts, but I agree with the notion of If you don't like getting ganked, roll on a PvE server. Isn't it better to find out at level 7 (or whenever it is now you get your first WS/UH quests) that you don't belong on a PvP server, instead spending all the extra time of finishing Tortage and going to the main game at level 18-22 and finding out you don't belong there?

Guess what? Instead of gankers ganking level 7s with lvl 25s, you'll have lvl 20s getting ganked by lvl 80s. Yes...that's much better lol.

Doesn't AoC currently have an unlimited free trial of Tortage? My guess is that a lot of the people quitting the game instead of subscribing are listing WS/UH gankers as a reason, but again...roll on a damn PvE server.

@Harley Dude The solution would be to fix the 80s ganking 20s. Whether or not they are prepped in tortage wouldn't matter: in both cases they get farmed.

Lets make it perfectly clear - I dont like gankers PVP style and hope those will be eliminated from any MMO games. But.. sadly there are few that get a hard on by ruining gameplay for others. This happened all the time in early AOC and ruined the game in many ways. Its kinda funny to think that those early bullies are now whining - In some way even very satisfying !
