Well, I've yet to touch EQ2, but I can see the problems you point out here.

Actually, it's been a bit weird, as I've seen one can auction off actual characters, at least in Free Realms and I think, EQ1. In the past, companies did not like that and now they've set up an easy system for it?

Personally, I don't mind paying my way with stat-boosts, but I agree, too much can be too much. I think the only way SOE may learn their lesson is if this (or future) things eventually bite them and they have to draw back...

...but unfortunately, I am not seeing signs of this (ala "SparkPony WoW" example).

I like the Gifting feature. Not only does it allow me another option to buy some extra Christmas presents for Mrs Bhagpuss, but I realised today that I can use it to buy items on one account that has SC left and gift it to a character on another account that doesn't.

I can't say I really understand the issues people are having with it. What exactly is the problem with buying SC items from another player for Plat? And as for using SC Gifting as a route for illegal RMT, surely it's going to be more trackable, and proveable, for investigators than the routes people use already?

Several times I've wanted to go back to EQ2 - I now have friends who have gone back and they keep trying to persuade me to join them, on a regular basis - but the RMT is always the reason I use to talk myself out of going back (well, that and SOE's record of mismanaging their MMOs and altering them drastically without proper iterative testing) - ditto for every other SOE game I once played.

I dislike double-dipping and I dislike pay-to-win - I think it will eventually destroy gameplay balance, immersiveness and the longevity of MMOs as a genre - and I don't really want to support a game that does both.

My current MMO - CoH - does have some double-dipping, but it's all entirely aesthetic stuff (sure, you can get powers in some of the cash shop packs, but they're more novelty powers than useful), so I can forgive it, but I do feel that as a genre we're already sliding far down the slippery slope of cash-shops and RMTs so I don't really want to support it in any significant way.
