Not really a "fly through" as much as camera slow zooms of eerie specific locales.

I dunno...I am hearing more whispers about this game, not all of them good.

@Space Cobra Of course no game is going to garner universally positive response but a couple things aside, I think people will be surprised by the amount of positivity surrounding this game once the nda is lifted. Umm, or so I hear...

When am I going to get my PS3 Beta key? I sent my pre-order receipt in the day they announced it!

See, that is the thing...

Those whispers I hear are coming from "over the wall". I've been receptive and am looking forward to the game, but I also am critical about the "depth" of the game, too.

I do agree, some people will be pleasantly surprised (from what I hear), but over the long term with a monthly fee? Not knocking on fees, just what else is there to do on DCUO that will compel you to stay logged into the game for 2-6 months or a year?

And while "new game content" is promised, we still have to see that it is delivered in a timely manner. Again, I am a booster of the game, but you gotta deal with some of the critics. (Sheesh, I am not in Beta yet and still don't want to break NDA, but pretty legal for me to do so atm). :P

@Space Cobra Hehe, I'd love to have a full dialogue about this stuff (soon hopefully?) but I can absolutely agree that SOEs ability to release timely, meaningful content is going to be the key to longterm success. They've got the infrastructure and talent but only time will tell.

@Space Cobra

Yeah, that is the only thing that worries me too. The depth of gameplay. Champions got me on that one so I am hesitant to pre-order a superhero game this time around. But at the same time, SOE has a lot more money and it's the DC Universe so it is likely the effort here will surpass Cryptic's by miles.

Loving the particle effects, physics and environments. I like the cut-scenes you get a the end of certain missions and you can use powers in conjunction with travel powers unlike CoH where you get suppressed.

The depth of play and the animations are my current roadblocks to this game. It is looking too console, arcade-like imo. For me, this tends to ruin the RPG aspect of a game.

As far the videos, including this most recent one, it is one of the best looking superhero games to date, which it should be. The night sky, moon, buildings and lighting in Gotham look great.

@Space Cobra I'm under NDA, but I think it's safe for me to say that my experiences and impressions have been very positive so far. It's somewhat early on in closed beta and things are certainly not perfect but still remarkably polished.

...Then again, my most recent beta experience was with FFXIV, and one could argue that beta experience is still ongoing after release. :P I may be a bit biased towards DCUO after that.

@Glosoli Well, I'm in the DCUO beta, and I wasn't in the FFXIV beta, and I agree with what you're saying, so you're prb not as biased as you might think. :D

@MMonster, if by "a lot that is quite hesitant to go in fully" you mean we're under NDA and really can't say too much then yeah, that's true. I'm having too much fun to risk getting booted out now by posting half baked reviews. Take that as an endorsement if anything.

This isn't the first beta I've been in, but it's probably the smoothest so far. Any issues I've found come as missing or undercooked features that fall under the heading of "to be added soon" soon meaning before launch.

As to comparisons between this game and the other superhero ones, keep in mind game play and overall intent is very different on the part of DCUO, I find it makes some of the comparisons a little weird. It reminds me of the comparisons of Eve vs. STO when STO first came out.

Reaction, much of the QQing I've read is oddly quite similar to that of STOs while that game was in beta. The IP is very meaningful, folks have been daydreaming about something like this for a looong time, and expectations are raised super high as a result. It's a matter of "but this is what I thought I was getting" or "this is what I really want (or what the IP deserves) to be getting" vs. "this is what the game is". I find the IP leads to a lot of wishful thinking, armchair quarterbacking, and heated emotions as a result. Some of the negativity seeping from "behind the wall" doubtless stems from this.

I have also heard things about this game, most of which I would say is quite positive, at least when it comes to releasing a foundation, but also a lot that is quite hesitant to go in fully.

If they want a real good arkham asylum, they should take the one from the batman arkham asylum lol.

would be a good starter zone, wrongfully imprisoned person who is tested on, get's super powers and escapes.

One thing that is bothering me about this game, is the character models. The NPC's look really well done, especially the main DC character NPC's. But the player models and animations look really terrible, even worst then EQ2's hideous models. The Medium and Large female models look like they were directly ripped from EQ2's clunky Barbarian models.

Gotham looks awesome, but static buildings and objects are easy to do, I just hope the player animations and movement have improved since the last gameplay video I saw (before the announcement of the delay)

Gotham looks awesome (especially Arkham Asylum and ACE Chemicals) - much better than my impressions of Metropolis.

Now SOE just need to make the avatars look as good as Gotham, and have fun gameplay, and I'd be there.

I'm impressed with the smoothness of what is in the beta, I have high hopes for what ends up coming in the final product.
