As of this morning, adventurers in World of Warcraft find the landscape has changed. Things we knew of and loved are changed irrevocably, and the land trembles at the oncoming nightmare soon to be revealed as Deathwing roams the land in Cataclysm. Last night, the world turned dark, and Massively reader Format was there to capture this image outside of Orgrimmar. He writes in to explain the dark scene: "Bon voyage World of Warcraft! Come tomorrow you will be very different-looking. This picture was taken after the elementals started attacking Orgrimmar. The sky was blue but turned red, and all of a sudden, ash started to fall. This screenshot was taken outside the walls. It's just crazy to look at because this is the last night to see this until the big change comes tomorrow. It was nice knowing you WoW 1.0 -- and it's nice to meet you WoW 2.0."
One Shots loves to see your screenshots -- from MMOGs large and small! If you'd like to take part and share your adventures, then snap a great screenshots and send it in to us here at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit for sending it in.

I was up really late last night, not specifically to see the old world off, but I couldn't pass up the chance to log in and be there for the countdown to server shutdown. It was a strange feeling knowing that it was the last time I'd ever see the old world the way it was.

I have recently been back in WoW the last month or so, just kind of relishing the old world: Auberdine, Taurajo, The Barrens, etc.
I have to say WoW is really handling this latest update well; the elemental attacks have helped set the tone, and I like how the whole world will change.
It;s the sort of thing that I'd like to see in other (aging) games that need "makeovers".

I quit WoW a little while ago, but really want to reactivate just to see how it all looks. Must be weird seeing all the places you played in for years, change completely.

If I ever miss it I suppose it'll be one reason for me to touch a private server. I miss it already so many memories just gone, wiped, well sort of, seeing something in the landscape that reminds me of it won't just happen anymore :(

I don't play WoW and I am not really into it, but idea of breaking the existing gamewold and reshaping it as well as implementing stuff to pace the way ingame for the new setting is a cool concept.

Bye Wow! I won't miss you.. much.
Cataclysm will be VERY enjoyable for those who still enjoy it like crack though - Blizz won't be losing out. It just.. isn't for me anymore. At all. I have hopes for Rift.

I played through the tweaked starting area of night elves last night. Since this area was the first thing I saw oh so long ago I figured i'd see what bliz did to it. Firstly, it was fun. Secondly, I really enjoyed the story. That is what a first impression of a game should be. I was completely immersed in the game for those couple hours.
My opinion is absolutely biased, so take it as such.

I have mixed feelings about the "new" WoW. I like the new quests and starter areas, additional flight paths, new race/class combinations, etc.
However, the difficulty level seems to have been ratcheted waaaay down -- or is it just me? I barely break a sweat on any quest with any class.
Also, I do not like how you have to "unlock" quests in a given area by completing the quests in the preceding area. It feels very directed and hemmed in to me, much moreso than in "old WoW." Disappointing, that.

Cataclysm looks absolutely damn gorgeous. Even if some areas look unchanged, they feel new, as though they've recieved sharper textures, or better modelling.
The whole world looks radically different, but still feels the same. I'm loving it thus far.

So people PAY Blizzard to recycle old content and old crappy gameplay and just for the mere promise to make the game remotely fun in first place and actually worth its money they allready payed for?
Well, another milestone in the long yet often pushed aside history of marketing bad products successfully.
Didnt the player atleast learn from all the empty unkeept promises and lies of Blizzard when WotLK was released?
The great RvR combat in WotLK? Never happend, all they got was a tiny shut off pond with a few static walls and a button to click to win after mindlessly zerging against the walls because theres nothing to lose.
World PvP? Never happend still the same gank, a fraction of what ever F2P and other P2P game offers ten times fold without paying for an Xpack.
Truely changing world? Lol, phasing aka "blend out or in a few objects and player " a single time just for your character completely unrelated to the rest of the world after grinding some dumb quests.
Great new high scale underground zones? Just hype about a cliff and a generic dungeon as existed in hundreds of MMOs since years.
Flying combat? Yeah less than a handfull of quests all in some tiny sport to accomplish and riding a scripted uncontrollable vessel, nothing else lol.
Planes with flying physics? Empty hype, not even real planes just a few models thrown over old mounts with generic movement above ground.
Ballisticas? like in the 60% faked "WotLK features" preview movie? More empty hype....
Another MAJOR BALANCE patch? Didnt do anything as intended to help balance like the last 100 patches to turn the FOTM to another spec or class just as the balance patch in 4.0+ wont help anything.
Could add so much more to the list...
Well fanboys can downvote another post speaking truth, not completely blinded by artificial CM and advertisement hype or fall back to ignorance. But deep down you just realised once again how you have been fooled and how foolish you are to fall for it once again.
Other games get half of that payed content every year for free including the upgrades on old content (i.e Aion, LotR) and the same contentpatches inbetween (minus copy paste gear, quests and arenas made with no effort, the only thing Blizzard exceeds with) Is it so easy to lure you away from less expenive and better gameplay with a in multiple ways bloated but shallow world just because its full of gratification candies? Is that all it takes a game to become fun, when its the complete opposite of what gamedevelopers with some standards strife for?
