@Faith He knows that, it's a technical problem preventing it from being changed.

I don't mind the Layout, but this bright white Background is really hurting my Eyes. I hope it gets changed to something else, or best to how it used to be.

I'm having issues with the RSS feeds, when I subscribe to just the EVE Online one I get every single article on the site.

And I do need the RSS feeds because the new design hurts my eyes :/

@Kronossan I know the tech guys know about the RSS thing (it's pretty ugly right now) and are working on a fix. I don't have an ETA for you, but I know they'll get to it eventually.

I am very much enjoying the sleek new look. In particular, I admire the new clean white look you have used. Noticed that there are now more article listings on the front page, which is also a nice touch.

So, I lost my username??

The site is all looking new and unfamiliar.
I'm not sure if I can recover from that.

Seriously.
Loosing my username and a new background is more change then I can cope with.

Text in reply-boxes is way to light, you barely can't read it on mobile devices.

To the people who are moaning about the look of the new site, they said clearly that it would be worked on all week so it will probably change soon and improve every say (God, I hope so!).

To the people moaning about the new website address, Joystiq obviously finance or influence in some way Massively and Wow Insider (wow.com) and every other website under their umbrella and are probably pressuring them to become more of a part of Joystiq to advertise their name more. Probably not much Massively can do about it - no one is truly independent and no matter how high and powerful you are, there is always someone higher and more powerful!

@Snichy Simple colour changes shouldn't take that long if they're using style sheets (and they are). Whilst trial and error for colour schemes will happen behind the scenes, they could have kept the old design up until they were actually finished with the changes, or hosted the new design on a "beta" sub-domain for people to check out and give feedback on.

I'm a designer. I know how easy it is to change colour schemes via simple style sheets. It doesn't matter how complex the front-end or back-end development may be because most of the colour problems are in background colouring. That's the problem people seem to be having, and it's a problem you'll always face when designing (when to use bright or dark layouts).

Bright layouts work fine in certain places. Look at Google. The upside to Google, however, is that it's never changed. A few extra links and the search bar itself looks a little snazzy but that's about it. It's still a wide search bar in the middle of a white screen, and it hasn't needlessly changed because it -works-. Bright layouts work but they need a contrast of both light AND dark, not just one or the other, your eyes will start to strain when all you see is black or white.

What was the reason for Massively's layout change? Was it -really- needed, what it extremely difficult to navigate between articles and columns? I mean come on guys. Change is nice but only if it fits a purpose. The comments system isn't a good excuse because changing one feature shouldn't mean changing them all.

Currently there seems to be major fail when browsing on my iPhone - get redirected to massively.joystiq.co.uk - click on an article - get taken to i.joystiq.com.

This sucks I want to read Massively articles not crap about Angry Birds!!!!!

I noticed this, too. Massively is basically nonfunctional on an ipod touch or iphone. Not sure why. It was kind of funny, cause last night, on my ipod I kept trying to get to the "Don't Panic" article and kept being directed to Joystick, someplace I did not want to be.

Still, I managed to keep my panic in check, as I'm sure this was just one of many glitches yet to be corrected.

Well when I saw the posts about changing the site for the first time, I checked out the joystiq site and thought "oh god, please no". Simply seemed harder on the eyes - and this is that. But it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Will just take alittle while to adjust then I'm sure it'll be like it was never anything else :D

So basically, from what I can gather from these comments:

People were very worried about the websites layout being a Joystiq-clone, people didn't like the very bright layout (and it is -extremely- bright), Massively staff come in to reassure them it'd be fine then boom, let's go ahead to now...

...You're a Joystiq-clone with an extremely white site. Congratulations, Massively, you upgraded the comments system (good job on that, at least) and turned your layout to pure, unoriginal bullshit overnight. As well as alienating your fans, like every other bloody site that changes for the sake of change.

There's only one real upside for me in this: I now know many users prefer my dark designs, and I've just had the reasoning of why I prefer dark layouts reinforced in my own mind. This layout is alright but it really is too bright and it's not unique, it's just a carbon-copy of the main Joystiq hubs one.
