Well here's hoping I can get into it. I've been waiting a while for the beta to start up. All the screens and lore I've read up on have been enticing me way to much.

They'll get a few good days of testing in before Cataclysm, then. :-)

They renamed it again? Weird. Also, I would LOVE to be in this beta!

Just curious; when was it re-renamed Rift?

There's nothing on Massively or on Rift: Planes of Telara's website mentioning it.

The reason I ask is because they renamed it from Rift to Rift: Planes of Telara last year. It's seems somewhat silly to change it back to just Rift, especially now that most people interested in the game know it by the longer title.

Or maybe the author is just confused...

You're not crazy! The original article (which called the game Rift: Planes of Telara) was edited to change that to strictly "Rift" after we got a follow-up email from the Trion folks letting us know about the very recent change (as in, as-of-today's-press-release). It was a subtle change, so much that we missed it at first, too! It's a rebranding thing, apparently, and you know, it kinda makes sense. Shorter names always work well!

Author must be confused. I found no indication that they were even remotely interested in another name change during Gamer Day, and I see no sources for this info, nor anything on the forums.

Oh ok @Brianna

It was mentioned on the forums that it would also be a good idea considering expansions.

Everyone hates those "Rift: Planes of Telara: _________" titles.

Limited focus tests + Korean import - sounds like they want to hide how this is probably just another Korean Grinder.

Watch the smoke and mirrors up front, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.....

What?

This is not a Korean import. You are thinking of Tera Online. This is a game made by former devs from WoW, WAR, LotRO, EQ, EQ2 and Vanguard.

Also, it is not just limited focus testing. There is a rather large "alpha" going on currently that is like a normal MMO's beta.

You might be thinking of Tera. Rift is Western, and most definitely not a Korean grinder.

I thinkk you are confusing this game with Tera.
Trion fully developed Rift and it is sort of a spiritual successor to EQ and EQ2 with some PvP elements in the mix.

lol, yeah I got suckered by that too!

I kept muttering to myself "half of tthe articles looks pretty good, too bad the other half is nothing but a Korean T&A game ..."

lol, sure was a surprise when I found out that was because 1/2 of those articles were this game and the other half for TERA.
