A card game (and a digital one at that) of an mmog of a film... Seems like a stretch to me, but I know I'm in a minority here.

Just when you think SWG can't get any more pathetic...

Then again, SOE have virtual card games for many of their MMOs, so it's hardly just SWG.

If it hadn't been for all the cool stuff they handed out during the seven year anniversary (including the YT-1300 house) I'd probably be a bit miffed about this one - mostly because of the cloud city inspired house. Most of the loot cards are pretty useless, but that's one of the houses that I think should just have been added as a schematic to the main game.

I hate all this crap, you should have to earn the kool stuff through playing the game instead of paying money for it. I mean you can't even earn any of it in game, they don't add any content anymore, the little they did add didn't have anything kool like what they put into the TCG.

I miss the old days when crafters had to make it and we had a player crafted economy. I miss the old days of 30+ professions you could mix and match. I miss the days of having a challenge in a game instead of being given everything straight away and everything being so easy.

Now it's all quick travel, boring locked into classes with very little customization and all loot based, no decay or TEF or any death penalty.

RIP SWG :(

@Neurotic -- It's not a new thing; the TCG's been going for years, and as Petter said, several of SOE's games have card games. Heck, several non-SOE games have or plan to have card games. I wonder, do people make these comments about, say, the Super Hero Squad Online card game?

@Venekor -- The TCG has become something of a dead horse in the community -- just like the NGE that grumpy ex-players love to keep bringing up in spite of the fact that the modern game has more in common with pre-NGE now than it does with the NGE. SWG certainly does get content updates; it's not "all loot-based"; everything isn't "so easy" and "given straight away"; and in the last couple of years, the game's even gotten a rash of new houses craftable by traders and earnable through the chronicles system. I'd prefer everything be craftable too, but more than that I'd prefer SOE keeps making money however it can to keep the game going. Some companies sell sparkle ponies. Some have a TCG. Whatever works... at least I can buy that cloud city house with credits from other players. ;)

Bitter vets keep bringing up the TCG because it's just such a desperate cash grab from a company that has shown time and time again that it doesn't care a bit about it's current subscriber base. Sure other games have card games but those games don't rely on the card games for the bulk of their new content. SWG is *never* going to see another expansion and SOE will keep it going as long as they can continue to bilk the very few people that still play.

Also, the current game has very little in common with the pre-NGE game. You're still stuck with a few cookie-cutter classes, crafting has become the red-headed stepchild of the game, the ridiculous animations and hyper-speed movement look amateurish, and the only content added is either through the card game lottery or stuff stolen from other mmos.

So...if I answer to Brianna, will my reply turn up below smg77's comment, which this is actually a reply too? I don't know, but I shall try!

You are quite right that SWG will probably never see another expansion. The dev team right now isn't large enough to support that, sadly. I doubt we'll ever see a new planet at all, certainly not fan-favorites like Bespin, but there's still a lot of room on some of the planets to add content to - like they are doing now on Dathomir, or all the room on Endor, or even new instances on Kashyyyk. But that goes for many MMOs these days, especially ones that has been out for so long and doesn't have a huge player base.

The animations don't bother me, but I understand what you are saying. I think it comes down to a whole bunch of technical issues, like the engine being as old as it is. What I've gathered from T2, it seems like they are very limited in what they can and can't do.

Now, don't get me wrong - there's a lot of stuff that could be improved in SWG and the game has its issues. But there's still a lot of life in it, it still does some really cool stuff that modern games don't even go near. With the current dev team at least doing some improvements, like the no-trade removals and the slow (but hopefully steady) revamp of the classes, we can at least hope for an at least slightly brighter future for it.

SOE make a lot of odd decisions for all of their titles. SWG seems to get the most hate. Don't be a hater, be a lover! Some of us still play it, some of us actually enjoy it.

Yeh when I came to playing it again my Jedi got turned into a stupid tank that had no moves or diversity what so ever. The Dark Side and Light side played exactly the same, only the light had a defensive buff and the dark had a damage attack and a dot. All you did was stand there, hold the mouse button and press 1 and 2. So frigging boring and they've taken the diversity out of it. All the while you were watching the worst animations you've ever seen.

Playing my crafter I failed to see how being locked down to one of the 4 sub classes enhanced anything. You were just stuck with something you didn't want to craft and had to make an ALT to have the combo you wanted, which obv is a problem in SWG with the limit.

Why not just bring back the profession system and let me play the way I want to?

I also like how all the new content in the game is recycled old content, the same bunker, the same cave and the same npc models wearing random clothes. I like how we see that same texture copied and pasted and that same black and red computer terminal everywhere lol.

The games just a crap shadow of it's former self.

Too late to hope for Pre CU now cause even if it came back it would sitll be in the sorry state SOE turned it into before the CU and the NGE. Everything was looking up with the player cities and vehicle patch in 2003... then it all went down hill shortly after with Holocrons and never recovered.
