It's a step in the right direction, but more needs to happen faster.

If you do it too fast, it'll create more problems then fix. NEVER rush programming in any situation, the end result is 99% poo.

I'm glad to see them working on it.

"The development team will be focusing their efforts on the three points elaborated below.

Working Towards Stress-Free Gameplay
Goal-Oriented Content & Comprehensive Tutorials
Establishment of in-Game Communities"

If these three incredibly basic things had been in the forefront of their minds from the time they first began to work on this game, they probably wouldn't have the issues they're having now.

Keep in mind, a good deal of the planning team for XIV were fresh off of completing CoP (and later on, ToAU) for FFXI. Given how potentially torturous the systems born from these expansions are, it's (unfortunately) not all that surprising how inaccessible XIV has turned out at launch.

Sometimes I wonder what prevented them from seeing player responses from the expansion of, and changes implemented in XI leading up to the testing stages for XIV and not consider shifting focus a bit.

Anyways, it's very nice to see the large swath of changes coming, though it's pretty common knowledge now that corporate and investor eyes are trained on XIV's operation.

@Syesta
CoP was hell (although I loved it in my own special, masochistic way), but I remember ToAU being like a breath of fresh air. After it went live, and after every update, everyone I know was running around going, "Who are these aliens, and what have they done with our dev team?!" They did make mistakes in ToAU, but overall it seemed as though they took player complaints about CoP into account and tried a different approach. And even though it's taken them forever, they've made a lot of necessary quality of life improvements to XI over the years.

That's why their approach to XIV disappointed me so badly, and why I found it so surprising. I was psyched for the game and ready to buy a new computer and everything else--but then the old "lalala, we can't hear you, working as intended" stuff started rearing its head again. I really think there are some ego issues among the higher level devs, where they're married to specific ideas and won't admit that they aren't working until they've dug themselves into a hole. It's the only rational explanation I can think of for why they keep basically putting their hands on a hot stove time and time again and saying, "It's not hot at all, I don't know what you're talking about!" until they can't bear the pain any more and are forced to treat the burns.

I hate to say it, but it's almost as if they had this unfinished game plopped down in front of them that they hadn't even worked on and released it as their own (*cough* *China developed* *cough*).

I cannot wait to learn more about Company-owned ships and their access to special content.

Most of us still within Eorzea are extremely pleased with all of this news and are eagerly anticipating further news and details.

This is the first I'd heard about Company-owned buildings and it sounds really, really cool.

Best to just forget about this game until march...then we can get excited for the real release. I am glad the beta is progressing well. :P

Was hoping to get in on some FF MMO action because I felt like FFXI might have been fun if I was an MMO player when it had launched and didn't want to dive into an old game. Beta totally turned me off of FFXIV though ;-;

They definitely need to make the updates soon or they'll completely lose the initial crowd. MMOs succeeding is good, but time and again, it's been shown that a initial rush is rather important to the future well being of the product. Unless you're suddenly turning pay sub to F2P, rushes don't really happen that often after the launch. If they get it working quick, they can retain accounts...if they meander too much, they're going to find themselves in trouble.

>The addition of right-click menus
>The addition of an item search feature
>The addition of a delivery service
>The addition of a reference list that contains all previously used recipes
>Adjustments to how skill points are awarded
>The further differentiation of actions to enhance class identities

This reads like a list of alpha changes to a game in production in 1999, not changes being made to game released in 2010. It's like a guy driving a car with square blocks for wheels, and then expecting huge amounts of acknowledgment and praise for *gasp* putting round wheels on it. And I'm not even talking actual -tires-. Just plain round stone wheels. It's a car, it's not a horse and buggy. You cannot just slap a bunch of -standard- features onto a MMO missing those standard features and expect a pat on the back. Not a month and a half before the year 2011.

Wake me when S-E rejoins the 21st century and actually has something about their game to report other than 'BREAKING NEWS: Our game has mailboxes now! Isn't that great!'

"In the hopes of providing players with opportunities to engage in such content as soon as possible, the November version update will see a reduction in the amount of skill points required to reach rank 20. By effectively reducing the amount of time necessary to reach rank 20, players will sooner be able to gain access to class quests and high-rank guildleves."

While this is all well and good, I'm kind of baffled as to why content sub-20 is so sparse. Don't you want to pack fun, enjoyable content into the early levels of your game in order to get people hooked and wanting to continue?

too little too late for me, unfortunately. i may check it out again sometime next year, but i have the feeling i just wont care anymore. cant believe i bought 2 copies of the CE. $150 down the drain. i love getting mmos on day one because of the crowds and excitement (wow on day one was soooo much fun). while this game did have the crowds, it definitely didnt have the excitement. ive been mmo'ing since the beginning of DAoC. and while its not fair to say, ffxiv completely turned me off to mmos in general. i had a lot of good times in my day, but ive lost hope in the genre. as others have said countless times, NOTHING will EVER live up to DAoC pre trials of atlantis. i didnt hate toa, but its definitely the point at which the game started going downhill. i miss the old days. i really really do. **/who emain , gasp!! tons of people!! , get my medallion ... wait on the pad (with thousands of people) to get ported , inc inc!! everyone get ready tp is inc!! , once in emain there was immediate kill spam and action , HIBS INC G1 !!!! rvr for hours and hours and hours... *** pretty much a void that will never be filled /cry

Heh, if ya think thats bad Wagonfactor, not only did I purchase the CE, but I also bought 10,000 Crysta in advance, and I can't get a refund on it. Thats $185 lost at least for now. I may return sometime in the distant future to use it, but it sucks to have it sit there and collect dust and may never be used...

The updates coming sound great and all, but I was in beta and on their boards and all of these updates were being begged for before launch, and SE ignored us all. Apparently it took the rage-quitting of some 94% of the box sale players for SE to finally realize this. {680,000 box sales and less than 33,000 still playing, so I've read...} And worst of all its still in the free months period... le sigh

But you know the difference between Accounts (the number >600'000) and players that are simultaneously online (your number >30'000)?

Actually, from what I've read the 600k number was boxes ordered by and shipped to retailers, not boxes purchased by players or accounts active. If they had 600k active accounts, they'd be doing very well--FFXI had 500kish when I first started playing years ago, and that's a respectable number. If the 30k number can be verified, -that- is probably their number of active accounts, because from all reports they only have a couple thousand people online at a given time.

Every time I read a story concerning the train wreck that is FXIV, I thank Cthulhu that I had the foresight to ditch this game after playing in the beta. I managed to ignore all the "it'll be totally different during open beta/early release/release/first patch" people and save myself the time, money and aggravation. I've been a fan of the Final Fantasy series since I got the bridge built in the original, but after 13 I've been a bit more suspicious of SE's products. Maybe, just maybe, I'll check this game out in a year if they manage to fix all of its crippling issues.
