Aion is the lucky recipient of "the single biggest change ever implemented by NCsoft across its entire portfolio of games." Version 2.1 is hitting the Public Test Server (PTS) today, with a launch date for the live shards currently scheduled for November 17th. What's so special about 2.1, you're probably asking?
In a nutshell, loot, and lots of it. More specifically, significantly increased drop rates are the order of the day. Now, we've heard the jokes as well. "Significant" means an increase from .01 to .02 percent, right? Wrong, as this time NCsoft means business. Aion's devs have offered up some specific statistics via press release, and you'll want to check out the tables after the cut for all the details.
If you've spent much time in the lands of Atreia, you're probably familiar with Beshmundir's Temple and the named bosses contained therein that players often farm for loot. Over a period of 20 Perilous Path Temple runs, testers collected 138 total loot items. Of these, 121 were fabled quality (including wings), and 17 were eternal. Similarly, NCsoft testers cataloged 20 runs through the famed Dark Poeta dungeon, recording all loot items acquired from Spiritmaster Atmach to Brigade General Anuhart. A total of 68 fabled items dropped, which averages out to 3.4 per run. This was also sans the final boss, so the actual numbers will likely be higher.
Finally, NCsoft is also gifting players with the new Aion Adventure Guide. According to the press release, the guide will "give players advice on where to find level-appropriate in-game content that will help with progression and reward them with items along the way. Crafted in-game messages and guides let players know where to go to find game content (quests, instances) that help progress them to the next level and give them hints on how to use new areas, such as the Abyss, and systems, such as Stigma Stones to their advantage."
Don't forget to fly past the cut for a detailed breakdown of the Beshmundir Temple runs in table format.

The single biggest change in the history of all NCsoft games is loot drop increase?

Glad to see they're still responding to obvious problems at a glacial pace.

Hehe it's not the biggest compared to say the Assault of Baluria but a big increase in drop rates is something this game has seriously needed since launch and should make a big impact on the game.

I'm fairly new to Aion, about 6-7 weeks, but I"m loving the game so far, so improvements are always nice.
I haven't done (obviously, being new) any of the really difficult stuff, but in the instances/areas that I've played in, the drop-rate seems to be pretty good for most stuff...I hope they haven't increased the droprate of like ALL items in the game
the economy is the richest I've seen in an MMO, so I hope they don't drop everything to the point that items are so devalued that it's not fun to make money on the Broker (AH) anymore

With gears dropping at this hilarious rate and lack of diversity in gear attributes, you'll see ppl all wearing same 2~3 sets in the end. Don't think this will do any good to economy since everyone will be self sufficient with enchant stones covered from de'ing gears that ones don't need.
Still, PVE will get boring due to lack of contents and since there's by no means they're fixing the AP gain/loss systems, ppl who are competitive at grinding and instance farming will likely to continue to sit in instances till they earnt enough AP for the PVP gear till they don't need it any longer.
Speaking of easymode....sure the game is still very attractive to new players, but they cannot keep players for long due to lack of creativity and contents including the "fun-factors". I believe the company realizes that this game won't keep same players subscribing for long, so they keep bringing extreme changes that attracts new players rather than spending efforts balancing the game out.

PvE is already boring. The "awesome number of new quests" were repeatables of existing quests. Instances consist of multi hour runs that are mind numbingly tedious. Drop rates have been increased three times already, but it still needed more fixing.. PvP has always been way too gear dependant. And if you don't have gear just get numbers. Zerg vs. zerg got old in month two. Maybe one day NCS address the real problems, but given their history I doubt it.

Why is this thing called a patch ?
NCSoft is mocking any real patch system.
2.0 called expansion is the equivalent of a small patch in WOW or LOTR or EVE.
2.1 has zero content just some parameter changes :)

There is NOTHING that could make me resub to that pathetic gindfest, poorly thoughtout excuse of a game. We ran instances over and over and over and the vast majority of times all that dropped where green mana stones and items from bosses and even less exciting junk from the mobs. Guess they have lost enough accounts that its time to actually make a serious change? As Hockster stated its just that bad of a game.

Mm, may go back again.
I went back to Aion after patch 2.0, but stopped when FFXIV came out, but unfortunately was unable to get it working on my computer (played it at a friends and loved it to death, but I couldn't get the boot to start on my computer without it crashing, even though I was well above min requirements).
Another boost to Aion will def make it that much better to play, considering it's already one of my favourite MMOs out there. By far the best looking one next to FFXIV currently available.

Its "the biggest change ever implemented" .... on droprates,
not on the game...
But its better for those not even able to follow such simple logicial steps, to keep staying away from games like Aion for the better and play shallow and mindless candy grinder like WoW where devs and CMs would praise themself again like usual for minor patches like these and hype them up for weeks until the dumb and retarded playemasses their managed to accumulate, too dumb and lazy to think for themselfs, are moved by the massmarketing slogans and hail at them.

The MMO market is in such a bad shape because of this "publishers" like NCSoft hyping every piece of c..p change as a major patch or expansion, when they actually release less content then a patch on a Facebook game.
Massively should really evaluate all of this marketing claims and institute its own system of labelling game updates, aside the marketing ones.
How did we get to the stage of naming "Huge Expansion" every small collection of bug fixes, some skins updates and some 2,3 instances.

To top it all I just read a thread full of rage on the official forum about the juicy details. Apparently the "tests" NCWest did for 2.1 are just a translated plagiarized copy of fan made tests from the Korean Aion forum.
