Most of the time, when an MMO goes under, there is a strong core of fans remaining hopeful that their game will get picked up by another company and come back.
Most times that simply doesn't happen, but APB might just be the exception to that rule. There have been rumors flying for a while, and speculation was that Codemasters had purchased the game. After David Solari put a stop to that, we all went back to wondering what -- if anything -- would happen.
We've finally got our answer this morning. According to gamesindustry.biz, K2 Network, the publisher behind GamersFirst, has purchased APB. Sources say that K2 paid around £1.5 million for the game, and that there is a "possibility that the shooter may be up and running again before the end of the year." Furthermore, the game is likely to adopt a free-to-play business model.

I am a part of the small hardcore fanbase of APB, and I am thrilled. Mircotransactions worry me a bit, but I love this game so much and I can't wait for it to return.

I might have to come revisit APB in the near future!
It was an interesting game much better than CrimeCraft where all you could be was the Criminal element in various gangs
APB you can be the law and pretend to be like Judge Dredd "I AM THE LAW!!!" lol

I'll add my 2p's worth as well.
Really pleased to see APB getting another shot. Didn't play it myself but know what it's like to have a game you love shut down :( Might give it a go once it's back.
NCSoft - if you're listening sell Tabula Rasa to these guys so it can live again!

Yes please. These are the two MMOs outside of WoW that actually captured my interest, and both were left to die... :(

While I'm really looking forward to seeing if an APB re-vamp can pull off what it needs to, it's a little sad to see this happy resolution give false hope to fans of the amazing Tabula Rasa.
Guys. Tabula Rasa is dead. It's not coming back, because not only have NCsoft buried it at the crossroads with a stake in its heart, but they've surfaced the crossroads with asphalt, street-lights and set up high-traffic business on all the corners.
APB is lucky because RTW went under. They no longer had to worry about the competition picking up their IP and turning it into a strong competitor against their own products because they're no longer in the running. They don't care. NCsoft cares a LOT. They don't want to maintain it, but they sure as hell don't want to see someone ELSE maintain it and cut into their market share of the MMO audience.
The best thing for Auto-Assault or Tabula Rasa is for the owner of the IP to go under. And with their current strongs stable... that's just never going to happen. Sorry.

Wait...
So they bought a game with an alleged $100M investment for just shy of $2.5M?
Sounds like a bargain to me.

Spending for something 100m does not mean it worth 100m.

Was never interested in the game, but glad to hear it.
I understand the loss and the happiness to get a favoured game back.

Number one problem with f2p shooters is hacks, I can already see this game being overrun with them. That said, I'll probably check it out if it goes f2p, if just for the art section.
