Ow for Jebus's sake.

FFXIV launches and gets burned at the stake.

STO launched in a far worse state then FFXIV and its just mildly torched.

Liking a game for personal reasons is one thing, but if this is news reporting then I'm calling out a serious bias.
So I'm only left to conclude that this is not news reporting.

I played at launch then left after a few eeks, then resubbed a few months back but althoug it had improved, there were still more reasons not to play than to play. However I am waiting with anticipation to hear about a sector space re-vamp and The Foundry mission system and if successful will gladly give it another try.

I actually quite liked ground combat, it was the ground "non-combat" that I didnt like (i.e. invisible walls, lack of ground exploration, instancing).

Hi all,

I've been playing STO for about 6 months now and I really don't get why you people are SO hatefull towards Cryptic, STO and Massively in that matter. Yes, you could be dissapointed, but where does all that HATE come from?
All has been said allready.....over and over I read the same hate posts towards STO. I'm starting to think, it doesnt matter what Cryptic comes up with. You will always complain and complain and complain. Its kinda saying more about you then about STO(Cryptic). And still you keep playing by the looks of it.
I say......Just go back to WoW or SWG or whateverland and have fun again....overthere if its so much better. Or give Cryptic your advise instead of kicking them into the ground. They are pretty smart people and know very well what they are doing. And where they are going with STO. Just have a bit of patience.

I have to say....I'm a very slow player so I'm getting everything out of the game. I still have many hours playtime to go till i reach the full potential the game has to offer. Till that time Cryptic will make this awesome game even better and better.

When you reach VA, there are almost no missions anymore...true...
But I think this is the time to optimise your skill settings, your equipment, your tactics...ect.
When you think youre done with that......start another character and go a completly other direction with it. Just experiment! There's alot more in the game I havent seen in other MMO's yet. Just think outside the box. Dont grind. And dont forget this MMO is different. It's good and it will be even better soon.

Typically, the anti-STO venom is unleashed. Oh well. It's not unexpected.

I actually thought STO was reasonably fun but still overpriced. It should be a $5/month subscription game or else, possibly, F2P. It's pretty ballsy (or just plain dumb) of Cryptic to be charging WoW-level subscription prices for a B-grade game (or maybe even a C-grade game). STO is not a bad game; it's just not worth the price they are charging.

I played STO for about a month and had fun doing so. I think Cryptic got a number of things right but failed in two very crucial areas which, alas and alack, the upcoming updates are apparently not going to address.

Star Trek's big draw for me as an IP were (1) crew personalities and interactions and (2) rich story arcs and adventures. STO, in both respects, really falls short.

Other games (Guild Wars, Dragon Age, and Neverwinter Nights come to mind) have done much better at bringing NPCs/henchmen to life -- both crew and other characters. In STO, however, your bridge officers are essentially robots. Moreover, the stories themselves are often drab and unengaging. Ultimately, I just lost interest in STO.

I do not hate Cryptic. I just think they really didn't "get" what makes this IP resonate with so many people. In designing STO, Cryptic either left out or skimped on key ingredients in the Star Trek recipe.

Well, you can't take a dump on a beloved IP like Star Trek and not expect to get quite a bit of hate for it. Just wait until Cryptic does the same to NWN.

Typical STO roleplay session:

"Let me beam over to your ship."
"You can't."
"Well nuts!"

Awww my opinion of video games being good or bad means so much to you that you had to go and write a long comment dedicated just to me. I don't know if I should feel stalked or flattered! =D

If you went and really looked up my comment history (ewww creepy BTW!) then you would know I'm a she, as in that other gender you're likely afraid to still communicate with from YOUR parents basement (oh noes I used the "original" fat loser in a basement stereotype too!).

But you stay classy!
xoxo

Star Trek Online has made a lot of improvement.

Star Trek Online still needs more improvement to be a "complete" game.

Star Trek Online is a lot of fun when taken in small doses.

I play the game about once a week with my fleet that's made up of a group of friends. It's a blast to blow up space ships with a Star Trek feel.

before i start let me just add my last rant in an article including mention of STO.

"being a long time star trek fan.. my disappointment was not with the lore but the execution... STo had a number of games to draw they while by themselves were not at all good(some were down right horrible, but i still loved them cause i got to pew pew in a Constitution class) they had qualities to them that were wonderful.

the Lore Nazi's who complain about STO are the same Lore Nazis who complained about the DS9 series... when in all reality they forget to realize, that conflict defines star trek, as Utopian as 23-25th century earth may be... the federation is surely not, and it cannot be as any number of "less civilized nations" around them desire power.. and they are effectively a direct obstacle to that... and given the struggles each it's member races had to maintain simply to get there little peace of heaven..... they are not above fighting for it... even in Roddenberry driven stories the humans(primarily because for the longest time the only repeated alien interaction was Spock... ) and their conflicts defined them... yes they had morals.. yes they were peace loving... but they were flawed.. if anything... and not above kicking asses if you messed with em... being a long time star trek fan.. and seeing how TNG DS9 and VOY diverged from the vision of Roddenberry has only made me see his "Utopian future" ideal for star trek as impractical... and CERTAINLY NOT FITTING IN A (god i wish i could bold this) MILITARY SCIENCE FICTION SHOW!!!! my god people... why do you expect peaceful exploration from a military faction... it's like a homosexual expecting a jihadist to hug him... srsly...

i think that STO is on the track to becoming a good game... in-spite of the players... and it has made me respect cryptic more for it, because i know they cant be cash cowing in on this(especially since it was barely half finished when they released it... and that has cost them of good portion of there initial playerbase) but they keep releasing material...

in fact after reading what i've written... I'm starting to realize that it's the ST fans that have practically killed the franchise... and that breaks my heart a lil...."

that being said... when did the whole of the player base turn into rejects from SomethingAwful or EJ?

srsly. i have had a hand in designing and shaping games in the past. granted i'm not a Dev of any sort at the moment i have an understanding of what goes into the game.

firstly: Klingons being broken.... anybody who says that is a fool, because you know what will happen if the klingons are giving more or even an equal amount of PVE content as the Feds? oh wait IT DID HAPPEN! people complained about Klink carebears, and the world end again for some tarded trekker.

i personally, being a fan of the game realize it's short comings... but the rest of you, and i'm refering to the 80% of the player base that is constantly griefing cryptic have failed to realize... despite STO's flaws... when you compare it to Star Trek Bridge Commander, Legacy, SFC II and III, it's gold, we have not had a decent game since interplay folded, and even then, by the golden standards you gamers are holding STO to... those games were shit. Vanderhill is right. you all will never be pleased. and in my opinion as a Genuine fan. who is just interested in the fiction, in the stories no matter how much they fail to meet the public's standards... you all need to be taken out back and shot. or go be star wars fans or something, Lucas might actually be crackheaded enough to care about your idiotic unsubstantiated opinions. you know why are say all your whining is worthless? cause i have been paying attention ever since the Perpetual failure(pun intended) that was initially STO in 05ish. i have watched the monstrosity they were trying to make, and frankly. i was glad when they folded, cause they had went way into left field. i then saw a number of other people try to assist cryptic. have any of you? did you think that instead of foaming constantly to stop for a moment and contribute to what was easily one of the most involved communities pre-launch i had seen. no, you just foamed some more. you whined and complained when the fact is this game was saved from obsolescence. and if it wasn't for cryptic. this title probably would have gone no where...

Second: are any of you even remotely aware of the time that goes into game development? the fact that cryptic had effectively scrapped PE's entire model and came up with something from scratch that even remotely resembled star trek is amazing... and they did it in less than 2 years! yet all you can say is "oh well this is broken and this doesn't do what i'd like, and this is not how i imagined it oh... and LORE NERF HAMMER!LORE NERF HAMMER!LORE NERF HAMMER!" srsly if you could see yourselves beyond your self-righteous idiotic indignation... maybe you'd understand why cryptic is kinda like "oh what? your still complain? eff you."

third: i say this, ST as a franchise and an IP is doomed. and i blame the fan base. i've seen this in repeated games.. movies... any media really.. you all will always find something wrong because it doesn't exactly fit your twisted view of the perfect ST world.

fourth: now that i've calmed down from the rage the STO player base inspires i will admit it's a flawed game... it's certainly not as inviting as WoW in terms of how it performs across a spectrum of machines(trust me... i have personal experience) but that is my biggest gripe. and ya know. thats my only gripe. cause i realize that in relation to other games... other ST games... STO is the best we have gotten yet... and i don't look a gift horse in the mouth...

this game will collapse... but it will be no fault of cryptics... it just saddens me that all that i will have of the franchise... and possibly the entire IP... is sad Starwarsified JJ abrams hack offs and memories of how good it used to me.

and i have you all to thank for that....
