The Daily Grind: How many alts do you have?

Another thing people sometimes do is pay for the Power of Two deal when it pops up (cheap extra account for 6 months) and train up a character, then transfer it to their original account. That way they can keep training combat skills on one character and have an industrial alt trained up. It's easier to do now if you have a good bit of ISK because you can pay for the second account with PLEX instead and you can now even transfer characters using PLEX.

I had to comment here because I applaud the courage of the author to state that Eve gives you ONE capable character per subscription by default. Eve players are supposedly into spreadsheets and math and steep learning curves, but they lie and deceive on the math when it comes to an unflattering aspect of the game… the developer pushing multiple subscriptions per player.

ONE character can train at a time on each subscription. Yes, you get three character slots, BUT it takes years to effectively develop a character, years for xp (SP) to run up by the clock (yes, it’s sandbox, not a content game, so you get xp by a clock, not by doing anything in game).

ONE character gets fully developed per subscription, the other slots are for mules, (or cyno alts) , or for characters you transfer to those slots from a different account. You can BUY, yes, you can within the rules buy a character as advanced as you want, OR, you can xfer a character over from a second or third subscription maybe you had running.

The vast majority of people who stay more than 4 months will at one time or another run multiple subscriptions in Eve to get more xp. It’s a dirty little secret that’s there plain as day but always gets ‘shushed’ or ‘it’s complicated’ or ‘not really’ ‘d by fanboys if brought up as a bad thing that most players pay more for Eve via multiple subscriptions.

If you bring up the topic of multiple subscriptions as a good thing, like as a show of dedication to the game… then fanboys come out of the woodwork left and right to tell you they have 3 subscriptions each and are proud of it.

‘It’s complicated’ usually leads to someone pointing out you can get game time by selling in game currency (isk) to other players for game time cards, supposedly making the game ‘free’. LOL.

Someone had to pay for those game time cards, and selling gold to others for game time cards, even if well within the rules of the game, a game that promotes RMT, …. That makes you a GOLD FARMER. Eve players hate gold farmers as much as anyone else, but for some reason think Asian gold farmers are bad, while ‘legitimate’ players gold farming is somehow alright.

Anyway, ya… lol, cudos to the author for not pandering to CCP by saying sometime wrong like you get 3 toons in Eve standard.

I enjoy leveling in mmo's if the quests are interesting. I always have quite a few max level toons, soon as one caps out I start another. I usually have one or two "raid toons" per game, a dps and a healer type most often that I concentrate on gearing but my other toons are just pure gravy.

I have any number of friends that preach to me that I should stick with just one character so I can get them the max leetz, but to be totally honest I could care less about being completely "geared out". If wow has taught me anything its a billion hours to get the "Shiny Axe of Glowiness" becomes allot of wasted time with the next expansion. I like to see the content all the way through just once, then its new game or alt time.

I'm same as you,I don't feel the need to have alts.Sometimes I start a new character just to see the different starting areas if there's one and leave it be at level 12.

same here, I get too attached to start over.

building a character in an mmo isn't about playing the games mechanics to me. lets be honest, most mmo simply suck from a pure gameplay perspective: point, click, hit f1, collect loot, point, click, hit f1, collect loot. with higher levels adding in the f2, f3, f4, and sometimes the f5 buttons before collecting the loot.

building a character is like building a model, I obsess on the smallest details, and sniff out every room in a dungeon. I think that's my problem, I over work my characters and then when I try to roll an alt it's an exorcise in monotony and I cant get into it.
