But it is suppose to get better with the PlayStation 3's release of the game (can we say cut and paste for the PC version again). At least the specification requirements might be lowered by that time.

Hey, when it releases on PS3, the one thing we're guaranteed not to hear about is how the controls suck. :D

I really wanted to like this game. But, even with the free month, I just couldn't get motivated to log in after barely a day played, and have already unsubbed. It wasn't the bugs, interface or performance problems, though they were definitely there... it was that I found the story mandatory, tedious and uncompelling. I admit, this is a matter of taste.

That said, I think the game will continue to have a lot of appeal to certain folks, and I don't think it's a "bad game" overall, as MMOs go. It certainly has high production values and several interesting mechanics.

Like so many reviews and comments have stated before, it's one of those games that you'll either love or hate. It will probably stay that way. I wish them success, and I think it's good that they're doing some community outreach.

Can't tell if that's sarcastic or not considering the issues people are talking about now are the SAME issues we were bringing up for over 4 months during the Beta.

it was indeed sarcasm. Especially due to the bugs the game has that carried over from beta. I said to my linkshell members in Final Fantasy XI (most of them left) that I would not trust Square Enix with another MMO.

Uh oh I peeved off some of the fan hounds for being sarcastic boohoo. That doesn't fix the mess Square Enix made.

Heh, I've been saying this for years. SE never listened to their players in FF11, and have a history of releasing half-finished products with no real content (e.g. Wings of the Goddess), so I don't know why anyone is surprised at the mess that they've made of FF14. Anyone with half a brain who had played FF11 for long enough could see this coming miles off.

The people running SE are idiots. FF11 had the potential to be a far bigger game than it was if they had taken any notice of their players concerns about some of the more obvious gameplay flaws. In many ways it was a superior game to WoW, but too much of the endgame was just a tedious repetitive timesink that was dominated by cheats and botters, and that just wasn't fun. But no, SE is always right and they know better than their customers.

Well now they're really reaping what they sowed, and they richly deserve all the flak they're getting. I bet they still won't listen to their customers, but they might take some notice of their investors.

I had a girlfriend like that... Cheated on me then came back apologizing. It never worked out between us.

Funny metaphor, sure, but it's the same thing. They knew what they were doing and didn't bother to evaluate the consequences. Most of what makes the game boring is just not going to be "fixed" overnight, if at all.

I can't wait for this game to go free to play!

I love it still, but the "difficulty" of a game should not include finding ways to stay busy.

If there were more content id be paying for it. Also, Id love for them to drop that whole second party biller, clickandbuy.com.

However, when it inevitably goes free the play, the amount of content per day(36 hrs reset) will not be weighed against the cost of play! And we all know its headed there. Thankfully, WOW is changing the market for us.

Square-Enix. Free-to-play?

No. They don't even think that far. If they don't profit from it they will end all development and never try it again.

See Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Also to the author Justin, please remember that when you say "according to IGN" your really saying According to news corp and Rupert Murdoch and most of us know that "info" from them is more often opinion than fact.

I believe they said Asian game markets have been drying up on the whole MMO scene probably because of all the trash spewed out. But these foreign companies never learn that the US/EU have different styles than the Asian market. Just having the name Final Fantasy doesn't work anymore and the game is too much in a way like FF 11. Next time create a bigger world for launch, don't make restrictions on levels and such, give more variety in places to hunt and things to do, and actually read the feedback from your playerbase instead of doing what you think will make people happy.

Saying FF14 is like FF 11 is an insult to FF 11...

Final Fantasy 11 never assumed its playerbase was a blithering group of idiots who need to be told to switch classes and when. Final Fantasy 11 actually has an auction house. Final Fantasy 11 at least managed to keep my interest throughout a full trial. Oh, they also never said you can only do 8 quests every two days either.

Yeah, 14 is far beneath even the worst points of 11.

It's all just a little bit of history repeating.
As much as I wanted SE to have a more profound handling of FFXIV as compared to FFXI, it ended up being almost *exactly the same*
That being said, I don't have plans to leave XIV any time soon, but good luck expanding the game to be beyond hyper-niche.

Anyways, so close to getting access to the next tier of main and class quests...so, so close...

But but it carries the Final Fantasy name brand. We just knew people would swarm the game because it is a triple A title game from Square Enix. When it's them they don't have to worry about their players threatening to leave and never return.

SE never listens to gamers. Good luck with that old fashioned thinking against Blizzard and the other MMO companies.
