With the Skaven waiting in the wings, Warhammer Online's 1.4.0 patch delivers a few tantalizing goodies right here and now. The focus of the patch is two new "RvR packs" that can be picked up in the EA Store. For players looking for a leg up in their RvR advancement, the progression pack offers faster Renown Rank climbing as well as an increased cap of level 100. On the flip side, players looking for fun, fluff and fast travel can opt for the personality pack, which includes new dyes, quick mounts, barbershop tokens and vanity pets. Of course, you could always drop $10 for a free level instead.
Patch 1.4.0 also features a major revamp of two core WAR features: open RvR zone capture and renown abilities. Mythic has pared down the victory conditions of open RvR to just capturing the enemy's keep, which is aided by achieving battlefield objectives and producing siege weapons. Renown abilities have lost their tiered structure, allowing players to purchase passive traits when and if they have the points for them. The dev team has added a number of new abilities as well.
For more on improved itemization, the infamous Barber Surgeon and class changes, head on over to the WAR Herald and check out the patch notes.

When I'm in gaming lulls like this, how I wish that WAR didn't have the worst PvE of any Western AAA I've played...
However; I really am bored at the minute, so 1 month of revamped RvR might be cheaper than buying a new game - any hints what the "faster renown rank climbing" pack is going to be, as I'm not seeing any such item in the store.
!
Just remembered can try out T1 for free these days! Huzzah.

And now we know what the packs are all about...
Money for EA !! Yes... you dont even have to play - just pay them and you get automatic levels !! Seriously.... Why on earth play then ?
This is EA & Co at its best.
At the same time as the most populare MMO game of all times is releasing a totally free update of the entire orginal gaming world (+ added 5 levels for those that want to buy the expansion) for a TURE expansion...
Pack this pack that ... just pay 9.99 and we wrap it up... Its not like they can offer a good solid game that ppl can actually enjoy leveling up in...
And now we see where SWTOR is going... Packs !!!
No thank you.

Cata will be $40 for 5 levels and a couple of zones...the most colossal rip-off in mmog history.
And we'll all lap it hungrily like starved kittens.
$10 bucks for 20rr? Really not so bad. -shrug-

lol - You watch at 20 RR levels and compare them to 5 levels of WOW ?
Let me explain something.... How on earth are you gonna play WAR without this pack ? LVL 80 RR against lvl 100 in same zone ? You are beeing forced to buy stuff. They are not actually offering anything - other than more power to those that pay. You could as well put high stats items in there and the outcome would be the same.

I love this bit
Specialized Training Pack – $9.99 USD, all characters on an account will recieve one War Tract that will allow them to immediately advance one full level when used
At least the admit leveling in WAR sucks. We all thought they would improve it. They decided to let you pay them to miss it, on top of your sub that is. WTF!

Cata rippoff for 40 USD ? And where does it say that those 20 RRs are gonna be 10 USD ?
You do realise that Blizzard is remaking EVERY SINGLE zone of the orginal game. Every single one of them! You do not have to pay a dime for it if you dont want to level to 85 so you DONT have to spend 40 USD - just your sub.
But ofc.. you forgot to mention that there are two entire new starting zones and new races. Thats part of what ppl are paying for.
But we all know why one company can call it expansion but the other is releasing packs....

Um.. if you are not the max level in WoW, you are even more useless then if you are lacking 20 RR in WAR.

So Warhammer is trying to figure out ways to generate capital without going f2p or creating (much in the way of) new content.
I love the game, I admire Mythic's spunk...but outside of WoW isn't any mmog that doesn't adopt Turbine's model dead in the water?

OMG! A game company...changing money for their game stuff! Preposterous!
In other words, don't use it if you don't like it.

They are charging ppl for nothing. And if you dont pay for this nothing... you will not be able to play RVR on equal grounds.
Charging for content is one thing... charging for levels is another. WAR can't afford the content atm ... so they charge levels...

The problem is Torak that if you don't pay then you can't play. All that will happen here is it will drive more of their players away from the game.
I don't mind paying for extra content, but asking me to pay to just have a slightly larger number beside my name sucks.
Sure I can not pay, but then I have to accept I will get my ass kicked in PvP. If this was PvE it wouldn't matter, but in PvP you need a level playing field.
I think this might be about the right time to call it quits on WAR. LOTRO went F2P in EU today.

Wow, they're really having their cake and eating it too. P2P + cash shop items that allow players to instantly level up and progress higher than players who don't pay the extra fees. Great way too alienate your paying user base.

Hmm I didn't realize there was a store for WAR stuff. I'd say blasphamy but even Blizzard does it with those stupid vanity pets and mounts, gender changing, avatar looks, server transfers, etc.
Guess $15 a month isn't enough anymore. lol
Though I bet you anything, if WAR went F2P similar to LotRO, it would probably make a lot more money, and end game would be much more lively.
People can make fun of WAR all they want, but when it comes to paying for stuff, they can say the same thing about gameplay. Anything it does, WoW has already done it.

Hardly the same thing. In WoW, you might be able to buy vanity pets, change your gender, swap your race, etc, but none of that provides any real in game advantage. In WAR, they're actually allowing you to buy levels. That's just so wrong it's almost funny.
