She's fun. She is the character I wanted from day 1. I have switched to her now.

She is a lot of fun. Perhaps a little bit too strong with that shield thingy she has. But I guess it balances out since her big spell leaves her vulnerable for about 5 seconds.

My kind a character...sweet sweet magic. I prefer to negotiate from a distance.

Annoying game.

I started an Evie character. And right away my opening job was to save another female character who fainted and my toon had to carry her past monsters. Oh those delicate wimmins!

I will spend my money on more enlightened game environments.

You're judging a game because your female character picked up and carried to safety a female character? Really?

Have you also not realized you're not paying for the game at all?

Annoying person.

What you have played is also the intro/tutorial that only hints at the rest of the game.To add another element, she was the only person trying to protect her Spider-Guardian, which shows compassion and foresight.

There are other strong women NPC types within the game, even female Captains of the Guard.

Forget about the part where the woman is the hero. Can't have any women in distress whatsoever. We know that shit don't happen.

@madeleen I know its a few months overdue to reply, but, if I may, aren't most oracles weak as hell in any game? And it just so happens that the oracle was a woman. Thats it, because noone else seemed to point it out. except maybe resurge.

Cool, I haven't had to chance to play her yet. Look forward to it the next time I hop in.

P.S. What ever happened to that Vindictus caption contest? I never saw the results for that come up. Has Massively given up on it?

@Havok

YES I am judging this game on antiquated, sexist portrayals of women. The kind of portrayals that encourage a horrible play atmosphere for the real women playing these games.

This game will not receive my time or money.

What sexist are you talking about???
This game is exactly the opposite, it displays the females as equal heros who can actually carry out a difficult job and...*ding ding ding* protect their allies from the enemies! (as they are also the tank of this game)

Madeleen does not speak for all of us. This real woman had a blast picking up that temple maiden with a sword-and-board heavily-armored warrior goddess, and then again with a scythe-wielding fireball-hurling magic-using female force of nature.

There's only one male character to be played in Vindictus, and he needs to be protected by a female tank, and healed by a female mage! (That's one reading of it, anyway; not one I particularly care to submit to, but picking Vindictus of all games as having a sexist representation of females is... odd, to say the least)

I must say I've had a lot of fun with Evie, which is usually a tall order.
As far as casters go, this is the most engaging experience I've had in an MMO.

However it is to be noted that the majority of spells and even her secondary weapon are not available yet, or at least not on the west server. (or at least not readily apparent)

25 levels later, and I'm still stuck on my first two spells, not including healing.
Does get a bit dull after awhile. But it will round out in time, it's still early days yet.

Overall, very good game, worth paying for. (that's a virtually unheard of phrase from me)

Although I'm surprised it took this long to report it..... it's been, what, a week or so since she was released. 'sigh'

@Randomessa

Well this REAL woman chooses to pick out Vindictus for it's ridiculous introduction of the weak female.

The other player characters are allowed to exist because the Heroine, that you have to save, is more important than your character. She fits the stereotype of a good woman.

It isn't only Vindictus that I'm against either. There have been plenty of games I've put down because the portrayal of women in the games have been horrible. I've also put games out of my hard drive if I see the general atmosphere of the game encourages horrible behavior towards female players.

I wouldn't call Madeleen narrow minded. Making a stand for the accurate portrayal of women isn't not something that is narrow at all.

But I suppose a century ago you would have called women who want to vote narrow minded too? Or perhaps those slaves who wanted freedom, how narrow minded were they?

I am 100% male, and I firmly think that women in video games can be portrayed as sexy, strong, and respectfully. And even if I didn't, I wouldn't need to take a narrow minded approach and attack Madeleen's beliefs and causes like Yoh did. Which is pretty ironic.

Because we think she is going overboard with faulty logic we want women back in the kitchen and away from the voting booth? Nice stretch, but hardly accurate. I routinely brag that my wife makes more than me and that she is the bread winner in the family. In the office she is a hard ass that gets shit done.

But in a game where you are playing a strong female character saving a weaker one you have to look at the situation and say, "Ah, here's both sides of the story. Despite the obvious weakness and frailty (that despite what you may want to believe, does exist) of one woman, here is another that rises to the top and shows how it should be done.

To come here and use this as a reason to not play the game is weak at best, divisive at worst. Say you don't like the game on it's merits, not a throw away tutorial at the beginning of the game.

Dear Madeleen,

You are either a moron that does not understand sexism, or a troll.

Did you not notice this so called "weak" woman character standing up to what seemed to be a WHOLE ARMED MILITIA? She stood DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF A BALLISTA. The only reason that she had to be carried was because the floor broke and she fell and hurt herself. And, like others have said, TWO of the three playable characters are female characters, one of which is a badass tank.

This is probably the least sexist MMO I've ever played.

have you met Ellis? He's a frikkin weenie of the highest order, and guess what, he's a GUY! Should i also boycott the game, because i don't like the way male characters are portrayed? It's ONE character, and BTW shes weak and needs assistance because shes a PRIEST/non fighter type and she gets hurt, not cause shes a woman. Fiona/Evie are strong capable female characters, why don't you concentrate on them, if it bothers you so much? Believe it or not, some women ARE frail and weak ..aaaaand so are some men, get the hell over yourself. For christ sake, she lasts longer than the badass captain of the guard and his 1st officer ..they both go down in the initial fight BEFORE Tieve ..i guess you missed that part.

If you don't like it, just don't play ..i guarantee we won't miss you.
