Yes, TERA news is coming in from overseas, lots of it in fact. That said, En Masse Entertainment's Brian Knox cautions us to take the translations and suppositions with a grain of salt.
First up is TERAfans checking in with another translation of an article by Bluehole Studio's community manager Mr. Blue. This time around, Blue details TERA's advanced skill system and discusses item stats, the newly added glyph system, racial abilities, and PvP skills. There's a ton of info to sort through, including nifty screenshots direct from the Korean client.
The only problem is that some of this stuff might not make it into the western client (or might look very different) according to Knox. In a blog post on the official TERA website, he warns against taking all of the translation news from the recent G-Star gaming convention at face value. "Our fans do a great job of translating articles very quickly but the fact is there will be differences -- in terminology, game play mechanics, and services provided by the publisher -- between the western release and NHN's release of TERA. With these translations there will certainly be some misinterpretation, and we will do our best to react and clarify to the community," he writes.
Why all the secrecy? Knox chalks it up to the challenges of releasing a global product, and the need for local distributors to get their share of timed exclusive marketing information.

Oh my...didn't know G☆Star was going on.
Maybe there will be some Blade&Soul information.
I think we haven't gotten anything from NCSoft on B&S since last year's G☆Star race/class/interview video.

It's going to be another bust, guaranteed. Just like Aion. The Aion hype was overwhelming and it was a snoozefest, just like this game is going to be. Every single one of these translated Asian MMO's are crap, even the p2p ones. Plus you have to deal with the never ending cycle of waiting for patches and updates to be translated, which often times takes ages.

While I personally agree with you that asian grinders are boring, I'd like to remind you and everyone else that Aion was not a fail... in fact it's very solidly in the Top3 of sub numbers.
On the other hand, all the "YES MORE CHANGE PLX EVERYTHING IS SOOO STUIPD RIHGT NAO!" people should also remember that games like Aion, Lineage and TERA are first and foremost aimed at an Asian Market... don't go in expecting ANYTHING like WoW, EQ, etc... you will be disappointed otherwise.

Hahahah, as someone in the know, I think you'll be very surprised.
And plus, this game has no hype so I really dont know why the comparison to Aion at all. You know, except that it is Korean. I'll quote a good analogy:
[It's like walking up to a pregnant Korean lady and saying, "I don't know much about your fetus, and that concerns me. Is he/she going to be a nice guy? Since you can't tell me, I have to assume that he/she will be a prick. The last 2 Korean kids I met were jerks, so I think it's safe to assume your Korean kid is going to be jerk too. Your fetus sucks ..."]
But its ok, because peoples expectations going into betas will be 0 due to Aion. Which is good, because it'll blow them away. And word of mouth is the best way to sell a game.
And @eLdritch: People have actually played this game. Western people. Through FGTs and conventions. It isnt just opinion vs opinion. Its first hand experience vs assumptions based on stereotyping all korean games.

Why all the secrecy? Knox knows this bitch can end up DOA just like Aion if the community figures things out too quickly.
Posted: Nov 2nd 2010 2:10PM NeverDeath said
Figures what out? A fair portion of the community is very interested in this game, and despite the ignorant and egocentric whining of a feminist vocal minority, there are many many more people who really want to play this game. I've seen a lot of silence from the people over at Bioware regarding their SWTOR title - just a bunch of lore updates and so on. You know what that means? It means they're effing busy, too effing busy to entertain you, so entertain yourself while they make the damn game and you'll hear from them when they're finished with what they're working on.

I have to agree with you, people need to stop judging something they haven't played yet, just because it's coming from the continent of Asia. No translated Asian MMO has had the amount of financial backing that this game has, and in none of those games have I seen a competent publisher put in place to make the game suitable for western audiences. En Masse is doing a bang-up job of covering game mechanics (considering of course that certain details cannot be released until they are reasonably finished being developed) and answering important questions that a lot of players have had about the game, if you're intelligent enough to use search features on the internet to look for the information.
This game has a LOT of potential, and whether or not that potential is developed into something great or not is yet to be seen, save by those who have participated in the FGTs. But for people to start nay-saying before they have tried the game is just a bunch of ignorant nonsense, and it's getting to the point where this vocal minority is just throwing mud without cause at a game they know about from third-party sources. If you don't like the art design, that is your preference and your problem. If you don't like that it's going to have features that will earn it an M rating, that is also your problem, because it's going to. If you don't like that it's going to take skill to aim and plan your attacks to succeed in competitive and cooperative combat, there are a million other tab-target + 1-2-3-4 spam MMOs out there. But if you've made up your mind you don't like it before you've even tried it, just because it's coming from an Asian developer - albeit THROUGH a western publisher which has discussed at great length what its westernization process entails and it is all of the key elements that effect the way the game is played... Well, then you're just an idiot.

maybe you should stop telling people what to judge and what not? ;)
The game is not released and all you or anyone else has seen is a few screenies and videos... so saying "it has potential and could be a great game" is just as far fetched as saying "it sucks.... for WoW's sake I can't believe how much it sucks". Both on the other hand are opinions and no matter how much or little information one has, an opinion is an opinion...
Personally I am not interested in the game at all... it looks asian and that is enough of a turn off for me... also I don't believe in change for change's sake...

Edit:
P.S.: I will bet you 100 bucks that I could kick your butt in any tab target combat system MMO. no matter how much you practice, because it does take skill. That is btw. exactly what pisses a lot of people off about the TERA crowd... you guys think that just because you have to "aim" it suddenly is all skill based... I didn't know that a game had to be of shooter style to require skill.

I'd like to point to the 'Just like Aion, will fail crowd' the following article:

Why? Because it is true. Anyone who has gone to any of the conventions and picked it up knows that it is true. So I'll just say keep the hating up. But come CB-OB, you'll be playing anyway.

@eLdritch - Aiming has absolutely nothing to do with TERA's potential, or why fans believe TERA requires actual skill.
What makes TERA unique is that you are in complete control of your character, and that players must actively engage and target their opponents while actively avoiding and blocking damage. TERA plays less like a traditional MMORPG and more like an action game. There is no "dice roll" to determine if your attack connects, or if you avoid an attack: players must do so manually, much like in traditional console action games.
In this regard, yes, TERA does require more skill. And yes, TERA does have a lot of potential.
