I can never understand why "undead" is a big deal in a game like WoW where EVERYBODY is undead. I mean, nothing ever dies in WoW unless your mom cuts off the funding.

Its one of those thirny issues in RP. I generally take a "gameplay and story segragation" apporach and assume there are no ressurection spells "in world"; they're there for game mechanics only.

Generally, I regard "my character died and came back to life" as Bad RP. It's one of those cases where it comes off as more the desire to be a special snowflake then any real attempt at character or sotry development. I knew of one bona-fide attention whore who kept killing off their characrter and bringign them back just to they could get attentiopn and sympathy hugs.

Now "missing presumed dead?" That's a potential sotryline there and then.

I just kind of ignore that it is happening. However, I believe Shadowbane actually addressed this and in fact made it a pretty key aspect of their lore. As I recall, some sort of big bad event or something had made it so that nobody was able to die at all. That pretty much resolves the issue (though also makes it impossible to have death play much of a dramatic role in storytelling).

Eve Online handles this with cloning technology. You die, whatever is left of your ship is up for grabs by the people who killed you and you wake up in your clone. It's an OK solution for Sci-Fi based games.

Doesn't work for fantasy games.
