How free is free-to-play? That depends on the game, and in the case of Allods Online, free just got a bit freer. gPotato Europe announced in a press release this morning that today's patch, an update to Volume 2: Rise of Gorluxor, will make the game "more free-to-play than ever."
Players may now complete daily quests that offer selected premium rewards including double XP over time bonuses, items that negate death penalties, and buff trinkets that grant up to 24 hours of increased character power. Additionally, every Allods character will receive a free gift, so check your in-game mailbox within the next 30 days.
Volume 2: Rise of the Gorluxor features a lengthy list of improvements including the Dream Factory (a new level 20 zone) as well as class tweaks and bug fixes. Be sure and take a look at the full patch notes on the official site.

"Ridiculous death penalty REMOVED."
I don't see this sentence, therefore I have no interest.

Tried Allods a couple weeks ago. I'm now back on WoW again. Similar game without all the hassles. Seems like it could be decent though.
I wouldn't mind seeing the bag upgrade not cost 2 months of game time from other games.

Sounds like a step in the right direction but I'm still not the biggest fan of games that go out of their way to hobble their playerbase as to sell CS junk.
Yes, yes I know they are a business and the CS is how they put money in the servers and food on the table .... but there are less alienating ways to go about doing so.
Other than that the game is lovely has a polished feel, Its too bad that the CS practices are such that I'm still inclined to look elsewhere.

Not looking good if f2p is getting more freer. There's no free lunch unless the restaurant is closing down, or is about to close down and the diners are being nickel and dimed before the chef heads to the hills with the cash till.

I still can't believe an experienced company such as gpotato ruined it's own game with single patch. I think losing lots of players was a good lesson since they did this patch.

This game just shows how cheaper it is to just pay a $15 fee and enjoy a P2P MMO without hassles for 50 cents a day.

i think Allods caught up to late, that was my main problem (paying more in an F2P game than a P2P). but this update couldnt come anymore later than it did. the game lost all it's 'core' fan base and all thats left is the MMO players that are probably new to the genre coming from Gaia or Runescape >_>

Pretty much. Too little, too late. I played since the last phase of CB to the "Gipath" patch that pretty much ruined the game COMPLETELY. Its nice that they're giving away CS items as daily rewards, but that still dont solve the astronomical XP increase, or the absurdly odd increase in mob strength. Then last but not least: Removing the ability to form Raids for reputation quests.
How much of this has been fixed, I don't know, or care to know / find out.
The potential this game had....

I decided to jump back in. Logged on and found that my account had been emptied. Armor, Gold, everything.
Weird, because Im an older player with no kids playing from home. Just built my system a few months ago. Got Defender, AVG Premium going...
Can't imagine that they are brute- forcing passwords but maybe so.

I logged in a while back to find all my items and gold gone. I contacted support and they told me something to the effect of "we have no tools to get your stuff back right now but check back in a few months." I immediately uninstalled the game and never cared to look back.

Negative design makes for a negative player experience. Negative players don't stay players very long.
Its so astoundingly simple I can't believe this type of thing continues to happen. If you design systems that create negative feelings among your players you are unsurprisingly going to loose players. Buying cash-shop items should mostly be a positive experience, or at least a neutral one. If you are spending money and feel negative about it the designers are DOING IT WRONG!

Sorry, Allods. There's too many games out there for me to give one a second chance after being disappointed once.
