I'm sad to say my favorite is the Final Fantasy XIV CE.

Only because the box looks like a book and the artwork on it is very nice.

The CE content is garbage though.

Halo Reach ammo crate box is my favorite non MMO CE.

I would have to agree with Ribo,

My Fav CE would have to be Tabula Rasa (liked that game so much)
Followed by Vanguard.

I have yet to purchase a CE, I had XIV on tap until the RL friends I was going to play with jumped ship. For me a CE really has to bring the extras to get my cash. XIV had it right with a full week head start, but alas I couldn't bring myself to let loose the $75.

I thought the tabula rasa one was pretty average actually; also the box now makes me sad. The CoX ce with the figures, art books etc was kinda cool.

I think Warhammer Online collectors edition hands down had to be the most extravagant. A very nice hardcover art book, a hard cover comic book, and a very detailed citadel minature as well as ingame goodies in a box that by itself weighed like 10 lbs.

I agree absolutely.
I have quite a few collector's editions from AoC and Aion to Warhammer Online and WoW, and the Warhammer Online CE is simply the best.

- BIG box in georgeous design and colors, dark and gothic, with an awesome artbook, who's mass is about 50% ink!
Absolutely georgeous. It wins hands down.

The WoW CE (original game) comes in at a close second (love the mini-pets), with the LotR CE (original game) at a third (although the life-time subscription is less of an attractive feature now... ^^).

I have to agree and disagree. The tangible items (like the art book) were great. The in-game items were terrible, bordering on stupid even. Also I disagree with the citadel miniature being a nice addition. I have painted a few miniatures myself, and the level of detail combined with the really poor quality of casting makes this a check mark in the CON column. They would have been better suited to include a nice pre-painted miniature of less detail. Your average person doesn't have the skill to paint that miniature and enjoy it like it was meant to be enjoyed.

Limited Edition copy of Eternal Arcadia (Skies of Arcadia in the west). Not an MMO, but back from a day when collector's editions were actually collectable and only had limited copies.

To this day I can still buy "Collector's Editions" of pretty much any MMO on the market x_x

My favourite of the modern era is the Guild Wars CE which is just made of awesome and feels really solid.

I miss PC games in cardboard boxes...

Oh man, I loved that game, played the heck out of it on the Dreamcast, good times. Didn't have the CE though.

There was no CE, only an LE in Japan. Came with full A4 art book, Blue Rogues flag, bracelet, keyrings, figurines, and special copy of the game. None of this "Gotta get them all" nonsense either, you got all the figurines in one go, all the keyrings etc.

Compared to the Sonic 10th anniversary set which is nearly killed myself to get and was horribly disappointed.

This is what Collector's Editions are all about.

I think presentation is nice, too. Garriott did much of that, which is why Tabula Rasa is memorable, but many of the computer Ultima boxed sets come to mine.

Even the Batman : Arkham Asylum was neat (except for the resin-cast batarang).

There is a certain "awe" and "wonder" when opening up a really good packaged game, even if the game does not fit the quality of the packaging.

IMO, such great collectibles such as Pyrii describes is truly rare and a "lost art" nowadays.

Guild Wars: Prophecies was my favorite collectors edition. It had a sublime soundtrack, great artbook, headphones, ingame aura's, and lots of extra goodies.

I never buy collector edition MMOs (given recent releases, just don't see the point of getting an exclusive shiny cherry to place on top of a steaming pile of crap). Non MMOs, definately my Fallout 3 Lunchbox and Bobblehead I think.
