"It's also worth mentioning that you can't play the game without installing Valve's Steam DRM... er, online gaming service. This doesn't bother most people, granted, but I mention it here as it is unavoidable even if you buy the complete Global Agenda retail box.. "

That's incorrect. You can download a patcher from their website.

Indeed? I'll look again, though if you have a link that'd be great too.

Your assessment of the general population of the city is pretty accurate. Young, male, stupid goobers, etc. A lot of what you'll figure out you'll figure out on your own. However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to play the game so you should be ok. :-) I managed to spend about 70 hours or so playing the game and for what I spent, it's well worth the money.

A somewhat incorrect statement.

"Global Agenda features one server per region (North America, Europe, etc) and I chose to focus on the North American community for my initial look at the game world."

Dome City Chat is home to all communities. While Missions are played out on region specific servers. This region is also by choice, as players are not locked to any specific region, this can be changed in the players General options.

I'd been looking at this as a game to maybe try - but if the city chat's as immature as you say, I think I'm better off staying away. I play MMOs for the social experience as much as for the actual gaming, and the racial / homophobic slurs really don't sit well with me.

Thanks for writing this article, it helped me make my decision :D

So, you avoid Internet?

Generally speaking the community in dome city and the players in game leave much to be desired, but that's probably associated with the FPS part of the game, I sure hope there was an instant mute option, because hearing the, whatever his age may be, have rage fits because the random team dysfunctions (really you expect random teams to have stellar performance) is too much of background noise, especially in the night and particularly when they set up their mics to be as loud as possible.

People are generally cool with the voice chat during missions. It certainlt is no Halo/Xbox Live chatter in the mission voice chat. Sure you get scholded as a n00b but that is an important part of the learning process.
