GA always reminded me of Tribes. Tribes was the reason I bought my first PC back in 96. It all makes sense really.

I think this is a good thing for Hi-Rez. Making more games means more funding for the studio, especially for an independent studio. Having just one game to support your company, though doable, but seems difficult. Good going Hi-Rez and best of luck.

Support independent game studios.

You know what?

I like HiRez Studio, a indy company wholly owned and privately funded by their CEO Erez Goren. Their Dev team is responsive and engaging with the community. Their CM's (I'm talking about you, Duke), are fun and very on the ball.

Erez is on playing Global Agenda at least daily under his not so unknown alias; playing right next to the average player.

I'm not saying they are without folly, and have probably learned a lot from Global Agenda as a new studio. This could be OK.

perhaps he should spend more time working on the game and less time playing it?

Say whaaaaaaaaaaa?

So... this is why PlayTribes, the re-release of Tribes 1, apparently died.

I'm really not sure how I should feel about this. I love Tribes, but I'm not sure how it would work in an MMO environment. I mean, some of my best memories are of the mods to the game. Seems to me that part of the community will essentially be cut off simply because this will be an MMO.

I guess I need to see more info before I can make a decision on how I feel.

Question: do they now own the star siege IP entirely, or just the Tribes spin off?

If this was nearly any other developer I'd let out a cheer about this news. Now I've nothing against Hi-Rez, I thoroughly enjoyed GA though never bought it, but it seems from my own perspective to be foolish if not outright suicidal to be bringing two MMO's to market that are basically the same sort of game targeting the same sort of customer.

What would a Tribes MMO have that Global Agenda wouldn't and, more to the point shouldn't? Jetpacks? Vehicles? Huge 64 player battles? Heck the reason I tried the game out was because it was "like Tribes".

Don't get me wrong, the news of a new MMOFPS is always a thrill. But I get the feeling that one of the two games will end up cannibalizing the other.

I hope they integrate the open world technology they make from this to GA eventually.

Not interested in tribes at all.

If we treat global agenda as the beta for Tribes Universe and assume they will use the engine/assets of GA then this Tribes version will not only be a sequel [kinda like Global Agenda II] but i'd expect it to be very polished and smooth to play [since GA has become that] .

I am actually more worried about say SWTOR launching with a buggy engine, poor netcode and bad combat lag that takes months to smoothen out, than HiRez launching Tribes within a year using their GA assets [unreal engine i believe it is] .

I don't think people understand how big a difference it makes if a developer -already- have a game out there doing the MMO'y thing vs. one that has spent years and years developing their first MMO from scratch.....

Awesome news. This should be incredible based on what they've done with Global Agenda.

Speaking of, we always want more people on the servers, so if anyone wants to grab GA for $21 (and NO monthly fees!) here are a few 30% off codes for you.
