I adored Tribes 2 while growing up. But I don't know if they can pull it off. I didn't really like GA. I felt like all I should have to do is start the game, push a button and be in a PVP server ala Tribes 2. Plus the no FPS killed me. It just...wasn't a game for me.

I hope they can pull a Tribes style game together. Otherwise it's 24/7 Planetside Next

You do know there is a Planetside Next in development, right?

I hope its is F2P. No way I'm paying monthly for an online shooter.

I'm kinda in the same boat as Cicadymn. I still love classic Tribes (and Starsiege wasn't too bad, either), but considering how subsequent games have progressed... Its hard not to be pessimistic. I'll keep an eye on this and how it plays out, especially when compared to Red 5's Firefall.

I hated GA to be honest. I can say though, that they made the most drastic changes in the shortest amount of time to please their fans than any other MMO I've even seen.

That being the case I am sure they learned some valuable lessons and it is good news to me that this won't be their first MMO. Not even their first "shooter MMO" which I think bodes well.

It'd be pretty hard to mess up a Tribes MMO I think.. as long as they stick to the basics of what made the game fun... great team based gameplay, awesome "level" design and mechanics that were just plain fun. It could also turn out to be WoW with spinfusors but I highly doubt this will be the case.

oh ffs!

All we need, them ruining the franchise, already will fail and we all might as well just stick with Tribes 2.

Ken Levine's Tribes: Vengeance has already claimed that failure. Man they butchered that game.

*facepalm*

they can't even keep GA running right, how the hell are they planing to run two games at once?

I read the forum post and to sum up my take on it:

"GA is too broken on a fundamental level to efficiently make the advancements necessary to turn it into a complete game. So we are ditching GA as our primary product and starting something new! we thank you for your financial investment in GA and hope that you repeat it when we release the game that we promised Global Agenda would be when we release it six months ago.

thank you, and as always: feel free to purchase another Booster."

Sick burn Hi-Rez, sick burn ...

Shazbot! What a flashback to Tribes 64-player server gaming! Don't we already have an MMOG much like it called Global Agenda?

Sorry, I didn't even bother to read the article. I just saw the title not knowing who Hi-Rez is.

Tribes 1 junkie here. The image for the post made me gasp.

I'll be there from day one. Hopefully it will live up to its impossible legacy.

Likewise. I played Tribes 1 for years and loved every minute of it. I hold it up as one of best team based shooters ever made and certainly my favorite. I"ll be on the lookout for opportunities to do some true beta testing on this as I would love to see a polished release that lives up to the storied Tribes legacy.

I think this sounds great. I've really been enjoying GA when I have time to play but it does lack the persistent world battles and vehicular combat. I think GA is an excellent game and offers a lot of entertainment for its price. It's not perfect, but Planetside has been dying for years and it's about time something else has started development with similar gameplay.

I've played SOE games for a long time and look forward to seeing what Planetside Next will offer but SOE is known to continually drop the ball by not listening to their playerbase. Hi-Rez seems to listen to theirs and creating a larger scale game is what many have been asking for all along. I wish them the best and look forward to the game.

There hasn't been enough development for mmofps. People should welcome any attempts and not piss and moan about doom and gloom. I think if they can implement a similar f2p model they have with GA it will have a pretty big playerbase which should serve them well. Good luck Hi-Rez.
