Indeed. I get very skeptical whenever an MMO developer talks like this, the reality is no matter how neat you think your mechanics are you just don't know how people will take to your game or not.

What I hope they are doing for sure is ensuring a relatively bug free and smooth game by open beta or public closed beta with a significant amount of content, considering how intolerant mmo gamers have become.

seems they're so hi tech that their LFG tool is /lfg and spamming a chat channel. Maybe nobody told them it is 2010 not 1999?

The lfg thing is a choice, not an oversight. Of all the mmos that have an lfg tool, DDO is the only game that has one that anyone uses, mostly because the compartmentalized "adventure pack" system that game uses works well with it. Nobody uses the lfg tools in LOTRO (which also has an lfg chat channel that is used extensively), EQ2, WoW (does wow even have one? i forget), Vanguard. Also, using an lfg chat channel fosters more community by letting people actually talk to each other about what they want to do.

So, why put so much effort into coding an interface that nobody will likely use? Energy is better spent in making game-play fun, and the world interesting.

Was checking their forums earlier... apparently they are giving away "VIP Beta Passes" via their forums, Facebook and Twitter today. So, good luck to anyone who tries for one!

I know it's a mmo, but the "human factor" players or what they want to call them is too unpredictable and can not shake a project of this magnitude, remain faithful to your dreams and goals, trust, vision, and people will follow.

CindyL,

From what i have read they have been pretty much smooth and bug free for a while, and its still in Alpha.

And, one thing that Scott Hartsman said in the latest podcast is that RIFT will be launching will full content (e.g all group/raid dungeons, full pvp content and endgame.

Lets hope it plays aswell as it looks!

I really wish companies would stop putting out trailers that don't show explicit POV gameplay. Not interested in seeing a camera whirl around a fiery-egg thing.

Maybe it's just me.

@Hammer

It's just you, and well, people like you. There is PoV gameplay videos out there.

'Fiery-egg thing' is a sourcestone area. Think of the world map as a massive 'conquest/base capture mode', with those as points of interest. It matters to gameplay.

Yeah, but it doesn't show us gameplay. How it looks, feels, or how skills are executed. It's like watching a commercial for a hoilday resort, then you get there and someone's took a dump in the pool.

That's my worry.

Looks great. By this point, its my MMO except if it utterly fails on launch.
