Man JGE is getting more pathetic by the moment.

Not only that "leaked" footage sucks. And is nothing like what JGE was originally planed to be (its like some arcade shooter now)

But the footage shows exactly the same scene another footage showed 2 years ago , when there was still some hope for the game (read someone was actually working on it)

I think I figured out what bothers me. Those starships don't control at all like starships, but helicopters. Not really sure I'm used to circle-strafing with starships, I was expecting more of a traditional dogfight mechanic focusing on getting on a player's six. No missiles either, it seems.

Still cant judge a game on a one minute clip though.

Well really, a starship WOULD handle more like a helicopter than an airplane in many ways. They're not limited to forward movement because lift and aerodynamics aren't an issue. Thrusters can point in any direction and all you have to deal with is inertia and the resultant g-forces on a crew.

The "traditional" wing commander/star wars style space combat is actually fairly ludicrous as it's modeled on WW2 style dogfighting, not a simulation of space combat.

It seems a little odd that they'd release "official" footage in the form of a video recording of a screen, rather than actually recording the gameplay digitally like most trailers.

As others have said, it does seem awfully arcade-y, like they took a top-down scrolling 2D shooter and made it 3D. Maybe it's a blast to play, it really could be, but after all the years of waiting they don't seem to have much to show for it. Time will tell I suppose.

very nice footage of the console game. When are they going to release footage of the PC version?

(Careful now....)

As a long-time EVE player, I always keep my eye open for games featuring Internet spaceships. However, my interest in this game fell to zero about a year ago. It's going to take a really big splash to get me to care again...and this video was not even close.

Not really thrilled about what I see here. I've never been a fan of the over the shoulder, especially when it can be avoided. This looks like a barely reworked vision of what we saw before they went quiet a year ago. And maybe it will look better during regular play.

Oh well Black Prophecy looks great. I know it's instanced, but gameplay looks like a blast.

As a person who hate EVE but loves space games, this looks to be really good to me. The control is correct and looks similar to SWG space. I like that it is not just lock on and follow but rather a skill twich system. Kills EVE any day just for not being easy mode.

Black Prophecy is unfortunately instanced. But when it comes to flying the ship it is as good as one would expect for a top notch space sim. They really nailed that part right. And I know i since i had opportunity to play test it at the convention.

I have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for a space MMO which:

>isn't instanced (surely space is big enough to fit everyone in on the same server),
>is action based, not number crunching,
>feels immersive and huge (like space should be, e.g. Eve) and,
>has level based/gear progression and a traditional end-game (no doubt most people will disagree but its what I want!).

STO was definitely not it, I was hoping JGE or BP would answer my prayers but alas no it seems. I will probably still play BP even though its instanced but whether JGE is of any interest, i will have to wait and see...!

Been back and forth on this one...was interested about two years back, but with so much new stuff on the horizon I doubt if I'll try JGE when (or if) it materializes.

Whether or not the massive revamp was necessary I don't know, but either way I think they've missed a golden window of opportunity. Now BP has my interest as far as space MMOing goes. Hopefully they'll get things together, but I'm pretty skeptical anymore.

This plus the fact that BP is F2P has just made BP jump in front of JGE for me.

Another forthcoming MMO that sounded great until I actually saw a video of the game in action - oh well, I guess Jumpgate can join DCUO on my "no longer interested" pile. It's not like I'll need any other MMOs next year if GW2 turns out to be fun.

That is truly sad. I was really excited when this game was first announced thinking I'd finally get to enjoy playing a spaceship based MMO that's not EVE. Well STO came and went, and now this?! As Valdamar said, my last hope for an engaging MMO is GW2 (please don't let us down).
