I just came across these articles today, and have to say thank you for doing such a service to AC. Instead of highlighting the negative about the game, you really focused on everything positive and wonderful about AC.

When I was 11, I watched my dad play UO but never got into it. At 12, it was EQ and while I dabbled for a couple of months, it didn't stick. At 13, I finally saw him play Asheron's Call and I have been hooked for 10 years. My first character was made less than a year after the game came out...she made it to level 15. My current character, although 8 years old in December, has only made it to 227 (out of 275).

It's not the destination in AC - it's the journey. The time you spend socializing, the epic quests, the endless combinations of armor and weapons trying to get everything "just right". I have made some of the best friends, and the best memories, in Asheron's Call and I am definitely not ashamed to say that.

Unfortunately, the mindset of new-age gamers is that all of the riches are at the end of the road. They don't take the time to walk the path - they sprint it, and then wonder where everyone else is. It's sad, but at the same time it is almost a blessing. The people who play or used to play AC have this completely unique experience which only we understand.

Anyway, enough of memory lane. Thanks again for these great articles. Here's to 10 more years!

I loved AC way back in the day, though I didn't play it much since I was pretty young and, well, nothing kept my attention for very long. I kinda regret that now. If I had to pick one older MMORPG to play forever and ever, it'd probably be AC.

Maybe someday I'll subscribe to it again and stick around for a while, though I imagine it might be difficult starting out as a brand new player in such an old game.

I only played AC for a short time before WoW hit, but I must say I enjoyed my time immensely due to the amazing community. Shadow Dancer, if you are out there, you along with the others in your guild, made AC a great place to come home to--If only for awhile.
