I've seen too much about Tera. Sorry but I'm not interested until we're at least a few months from launch. They don't even have an official release date so all this constant information several times a day is just overwhelming.

I'm not too sure where you're seeing multiple postings per day for TERA on Massively, but, OK.

You see posts for TERA much less than other unreleased MMOs, but yet you probably don't complain for the other ones. Keep bitching.

lol. Arenanet releasing useful info.
after 2 years since the game was announced, they haven't released all the playable classes and instead announce "dying your armor" and their item shop. Wasn't that already in the old GW?

Sure they do! Armor dyes! Now more useful than enchantment crystals.

Ha. Monster-size specific crystals, that may or may not break when you remove them? Hm, let me think... could there be anything wrong with that mechanic?

Let's work through that logic. I'm attacking a small creature, but the crystals in my gear are all meant for boss monsters. So, they don't do anything. Ok, great, er I mean, ok, that sucks.

I'm attacking a boss monster, but the crystals in my gear are all meant for small creatures. So they don't do anything against the boss. Hmmm, let me do the math here, yep, that sucks too!

Other games have tried this level of specificity. It's not fun and it doesn't make your subscribers weep for joy. Happily, TERA hasn't released yet, so they still have time to fix such a bad idea. The real question is, will they?

Also, here's a life lesson for developers that enjoy punitive mechanics. You can beat the mule with the stick once, while they keep reaching for the carrot. But every time you add another wack of the stick, they start to shy away. Having a random chance for the crystal to break is one wack of the stick. Forcing a choice on the player that they can only be effective on a single SIZE OF CREATURE, that's a second wack. If you add a third wack (I'm sure it's already there, and we just don't know about it) is just fail waiting to happen.

Punitive mechanics only satisfy a very small portion of your potential subscribers. 11 years of punitive mechanics in a wide variety of MMO's, especially in tradeskills & crafting, should be your mentor here. Learn from history.

I think you're a bit confused. First, crystals are consumables and them breaking is the only current death penalty. The chance for them to break is also really small but that doesnt matter because they really wont be that hard to get.

Secondly, there are crystals that increase your effectiveness against small mobs, crystals that increase your effectiveness again boss mobs, and then there are the REST of the crystals. Not every crystal is tied to a specific monster size. If you dont like your character being too narrow, dont slot those crystals. Slot any of the many other ones.

So what, are we back down to no whacks again?

Hm... the article says:

"
... Crystals come in various degrees of rarity, with rarer crystals offering more powerful effects ...
"

They really won't be that hard to get? How do you get that idea out of "degrees of rarity" and "rarer"?
