I'm not hung up on the console thing. It's an odd choice but I can see it working.

I really, really hope this has an open world/sandbox vibe, something like Stalker maybe. Not interested whatsoever in a heavily-instanced deathmatch game.

...aaand I just read the article. Sounds way too good to be true. And this should really be on PC as well as console.

Hopefully the majority of planned features actually make it into the game so we don't end up with the zombie version of Global Agenda or something.

Lost all interest the second it said "console-only" Guess this is just another crap game. Hopefully another good game designer will make a proper pc one in the future.

Damn shame, was hoping I wouldn't have to wait another 4-6 years for a zombie MMO.

Ugh, not only console only but the jab at the 'PC MMO Paradigm'. Because of course the reason WoW gameplay is slow, repetitive and uninvolved is the hardware it runs on right? No one could possibly make a fantastic zombie shooting game on a PC right?

I encourage the hack you are quoting to urinate up a rope.

Think on the good side:

No crappy console-ports.

OMG why would you make a console MMO?! Oh yeah, more people play console games than PC. Those stupid developers.

Yeah, pretty much every age demographic plays PC mmos. Even grandparents play them. But how many of them play console games? Probably none.

I'm pretty interested in it, and since I have a modern console that doesn't lower my excitement. It's about time we started seeing MMOs on consoles.

Not cool. Not cool, not cool, NOT. EFFING. COOL...

Really, console only? User interface is going to be a bitch and a half, and I'm not about to sign up for M$ X-Box LIVE in addition to the MMO's monthly fee. Not to mention the significant difference in the community between console and PC gamers, so far as I've been exposed to.. all my friends are on this end anyway, most of them don't even have a console.

Forgiving all that, though, I've specifically been knocking this specific idea around for YEARS, hitting pretty heavy with L4D1 and what all they COULD have done to make it a more persistent world that you interacted with. The idea of a "Post Zombipocalypse Survival Horror Sim" just slays me; regardless of what drawbacks exists, this game will end up in my hands one way or another.

But they've got a LOT of hurdles to overcome in the future that they're planning on dropping this kid into. We've all seen what happened to APB recently, and making this a console-only title is going to set it at even more of a disadvantage.

It's a shame this won't be for PC.

It looks like the perfect MMO for me, but I can't see myself buying a console just to play this.

Actually, we don't have all the MMO's we could ever want. I notice you mentioned two fantasy games, and an expansion to a fantasy game. That's basically the bulk of what we have, with the odd Sci-fi game thrown in for good measure. Maybe a pirate game here and there ,but on the whole fantasy is the bulk of it, and frankly a lot of us aren't so fond of swords and sorcery.

Until we have all genres represented on some level, it's far too early to say we have all we could ever want.

Dude, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The PC mmorpg market is seriously oversaturated with fantasy games. The few games that are NOT fantasy based, mostly suck......hard. There is a staggering shortage of original content in the PC mmorpg genre.

So there has been a lot of controvesy over a console MMOs. And I am for one spoke my opinion on my first ever and recently started blog... http://2sensemachine.blogspot.com
And basically now I am gathering a poll about where MMOs should be played because there has been a lot of talk that console gamers wouldn't get into MMOs. So I am trying to figure out what most of the gamers out there think and see if there really is an audience for console MMOs. So if you all want it would be awesome for you all to help you me out and answer to poll. Then just spread the news about it to all your friends so we can get an actually result with good numbers. Thanks all!

There are two good reasons why companies make Console MMO's.

1. They want to deliver a good quality experience (Graphically) and don't want to spend countless man-hours bug-hunting the 1000's of configurations possible in the PC Market. (Also Bug Hunting is valuable paid time that can be used on actual game content).

2. Consoles have built in markets of at least 25 million players (minimum - each) if a fourth of the people who bought L4D2 bought and subbed this game it would have over half a million subs, making it a top five mmo.

Jeff Strain chose to go console only, because he feels that the reason there aren't a lot of good MMOs for the console is because the ones available have been developed for the PC then ported to the console. For that reason he decided to design for just the console to make the best console MMO possible. I'm not much of a zombie fan and I'm not a console gamer, but I do know who Jeff Strain is and have faith that him and his team can make a good game so people shouldn't count this one out before it's even half way finished. Jeff Strain was the lead programmer on World of Warcraft before leaving with two other Blizzard employees Mike O'Brien and Patrick Wyatt to form ArenaNet and create Guild Wars. He's an MMO veteran so at least give him a chance to see what he and his team come up with before counting their game out.

This game's gonna do lousy on consoles. These people must be out of their minds, obviously the PC mmo market is MUCH bigger. And there isn't a single good 3D zombie mmorpg on the PC(those browser based games don't count, seriously, those are a joke).
